You don't know we Brits vewwy well! You've never heard of satirical TV comedy series like "Have I Got News For You" and "Mock The Week".
Those you'd regard as 'Liberals' savagely ripping the piss out of anyone. Including other 'Liberals'.
They've taken the piss out of previous Labour prime ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Since late 2008 there's been a few digs at Barack Obama, but mostly in an affectionate and ironic way (which he'd probably laugh at, he being the intelligent American he is, who along with all other intelligent Americans recognise the concept of irony. And are thick-skinned to shrug off the slings & arrows of outrageous fortune like everyone else). But mostly because he's not Dumbya, the richest source of satirical comedy & parody in recent years.
Post-Obama, you wouldn't believe how such programmes - to say nothing of the rest of the satirical media (newspapers, radio, magazines like "Private Eye" etc) have torn apart Sarah Failin & her right-wing ilk.
But then, those on the Left are intelligent enough to know not to get mixed up in the sorts of things that warrant such attacks. To my knowledge, Richard Dawkins has been shown in a very positive light. Mainly due to the fact he knows what he's talking about (certainly more than your average comedian* & tabloid journalist/editor; he is a scientist after all), and - as long as he doesn't do the sorts of things 'celebs'/politicians get up to - there's not much scope for satire and tabloid/character annihilation. Tom Hanks and George Clooney? They walk on water. They're untouchable.
The GOP, Repubicans, Teabaggers, Religious Right et al, on the other hand however...:

*- The exception being the Irish comedian Dara O'Briain. He has a degree in theoretical physics.
