And yet, according to a very lazy google search:CAIR chairman Nihad Awad told the Saudi paper 'Ukaz that "34,000 Americans have converted to Islam following the events of September 11, and this is the highest rate reached in the U.S. since Islam arrived there."

Actually from a purely mathematical standpoint, I would think this would produce the same amount of people, considering that women / men are always born at a 50/50 ratio, and this would just create a LOT of single men.

The modern version of Islam that has devolved in modern Middle Eastern countries, yes. During Muhammad's time, it was actually considered quite progressive, as he abolished things such as burying unwanted baby girls in the desert alive (done by Arab pagans), had at least some form of liberal relationship with his wives (for, uh, not treating them like they deserved to be chained to a radiator), and the verse over women having four witnesses to defend them was probably started more for their benefit (though of course, Shariah law is just as outdated and archaic and dumb as Leviticus' ramblings).
This isn't to say Islam doesn't have any problems, but it certainly treated women a bit more decent in the past than it does currently.

I hate to point this out, but if my private schooling is to be believed, Islam also counts EVERY PERSON EVER as a Muslim. So, doesn't that make you a Muslim?

My mom converted to Islam completely of her own accord, after experimenting with various different branches of Christianity. She still believes it and tried very hard for a long time to convince me to believe it. Many, many Christian American women convert to Islam and there's actually a book on it, written by the Christian mother of a Muslim convert. It's called 'Daughters of Another Path.'
I was a Muslim and then I left/am in the process of leaving and while some people are worried for me (cute of them) no one has attempted to stop me or sanction me.
Now shut the fuck up.
