What about your billions of brothers and sisters that were never even concieved? Don't you think they find that wrong or unfair?

Oh, wait... No they don't. BECAUSE THEY DON'T EXIST!

Are you glad you were not aborted?
Not particularly. If I had been aborted I wouldn't even be aware of it in the first place to be miserable over it. It's a total non-issue.

Would you think it was morally wrong or unfair if you were (hypothetically)?
Nope. (Assuming of course, that I would be able to think ANYTHING...)

Are you glad you were not aborted?
Sure, I guess. but Mom wasn't in a position to need or want one. It's not like a person just flushes out the fetuses for no reason...it's because they don't feel they're capable of dealing with the child or pregnancy effectively. Now ask the same question to a kid that grew up in poverty or abuse because his/her Mom wasn't allowed to abort him/her.

Would you think it was morally wrong or
unfair if you were (hypothetically)?

Perhaps, but then, it'd be just as unfair for her tobe forced to carry a child she couldn't care for, too, wouldn't it?

Are you pro-choice or pr0-life?
Pro-Choice. I don't have a uterus, so it's not my place to tell those that do how to use it.

No!

By your reasoning should a woman who miscarries be charged with manslaughter or homicide? It's very common for a woman to concieve, then miscarry the zygote without realising she was pregnant, even for a short while. Would you charge my mother for depriving me of a brother or sister that I never knew?

2. Does not apply
3. What business is it of yours?

@ Pious - knock it off. Either contribute or get the hell out of here.

if abortion had been legal when I was a zygote, mom would have been the first in line at the clinic. not just because she didn't want children, but she feared I would KILL HER by my very existance. if she had aborted me and I somehow had known about it (oh sure), I would have heartily approved.

NEXT!

Pro-choice, know most of my family wished my mother had aborted me and have written proof of it. Occasionally, I do wish she had, but mostly glad she didn't. But I still feel the choice would have been hers and she should have had the freedom to make it.

Do you honestly think people are fickle enough to form an opinion on something this big around their personal situation?

Actually, thinking about that- if you were hypothetically at risk as a result of a pregnancy, would you still think an abortion would be morally wrong or unfair?

8/28/2008 2:53:14 PM

SiKeTe

That opens the door to so many hypothetical situations that you're question becomes redundant.

My mother was not in any sort of situation in which she would even consider an abortion. If, however, she had been in different circumstances and had considered and had then decided against it, my life would likely have been very different, my opinions would be different and thus my hypothetical stance on it would not be comparable to my real stance, as I would be a different person. If I had been aborted I would have no opinion whatsoever, as I would not actually exist.

Nope. The thought would never enter my mind. That's the nice part about non-existence.

Having grown up in a nice place with parents who were fit for purpose, yes I suppose I am glad I wasn't aborted on the whole.

Had my parents been likely to resent me as I was the product of an unwelcome union, far too poor, lazy or selfish to care for a child properly or simply not into the whole being-a-parent thing then perhaps I might think otherwise.

In any case it's quite difficult to compare being alive with being dead / never having existed since I have only experienced one and not the other, and have no evidence from which to consider the alternative.

nb unless you think aborted babies go straight to hell with no reprieve surely *you*, assuming you are actually religious, are more ambivalent on the matter? Or even *unhappy* to be alive rather than in heaven with god and baby jesus and all the lovely little angels dancing and singing and praising...

Are you glad that you weren't miscarried, subjected to fetal alcohol syndrome, that you didn't die in infancy from suffocating on your blanket, that you didn't choke to death on the lamb leg that one time, and that you weren't run over by that car that could have veered to the right just a mere 2 feet and that'd be the end? Would you think it was morally wrong of unfair if you were (hypothetically)?

Are you pro-living, or anti-miscarriage, and anti-alcohol, blanket, food, and vehicle usage?

Pr0-life...the 1337 version of pro-life

Headache

The funny part is that pro-life people are in general also pro death penalty, pro use of military, pro beating the shit out of kids and wifes, basically they are pro-violence and killing as long as it is not a fetus.

But you may have hypothetical brothers and sisters who were. The world's biggest abortionist is the woman's uterus. It's estimated that anywhere from 10% to 50% of all conceptions end in miscarriage (the variation is due to the fact that most of these happen so early, the woman never knew she was pregnant).

Well, considering that I grew up in a fundie, abusive home, there have been many times that I genuinely wished my mother had aborted me. And no, there would have been nothing morally wrong with it, since I wouldn't have been alive yet.

That said, Prozac is my friend, and I'm generally glad I'm alive these days, if only to laugh at the fundie mindset here on FSTDT.

I wouldn't really know if I was aborted.

8/28/2008 3:53:46 PM

I probably wouldn't care because I wouldn't have existed to have any concept of life, much less what I was missing.

Are you glad you were not aborted?
Are you glad you've never been arrested/bombed/shot/had your house searched by the FBI?

Yes?

Why, then obviously all those practices are wrong and we should not arrest criminals, invade Iraq, or search the houses of suspected criminals.

By your logic.

Seriously, I hate the abortion debate for being all about appeals to emotion and other fallacies, rather than meaningful discussion.

Are you pro-choice or pr0-life?
You're either with us, or you're against life.
Riiiiight.

THESE ARE NOT REAL QUESTIONS

THESE PEOPLE ARE DRIVING ME BATSHIT

MY HEAD JUST WENT ASPLODY

8/28/2008 4:26:30 PM

Are you glad that I haven't beaten you up yet?

If I do decide to beat you up, would you rather I used my fists or a two by four?

This is how asinine their "questions" sound.

I'm quite unhappy you were aborted. Had you been brought to term, you might not have been so stupid.
