The site is fundy, but the statement is just ignorant.

Really? Why? I have done that many times and I am a man and I have never had any problems. What IS the problem?

What happens in the case of a straight widower?

Ah, yes. The grasping at straws argument.

In fundie world, girls aren't allowed to go to the store by themselves.

This is also a reason why you should never have single fathers (whether due to him being divorced from a negligent, abusive, or incompetent mother, or due to being a widower). Go raise hell with those folks too, while you're at it.

Yeah, being gay would be pretty embarrassing, I can see how that would be awkward.

Having to get pads. Yeah. Awkward.

Never mind the... The actual.. y'know.

The actual being gay part. Yeah I'm sure the pads just fucking ruin it for them.

Really, I know it's a loving, caring, family environment and all but ... whoa, embarrassment. No thanks, I'll take this cold, sterile orphanage any day.

"Hey daddy, I'm on the rag!"

"K, I'd better go to the drugstore to get you some Tampax."

I'm pretty sure a gay man isn't gonna be like "EWWW! VAGINA BLOOD!" like most STRAIGHT men are . . .

"The site is fundy, but the statement is just ignorant."

So that would be... a fundie... saying a 'darndest' thing?

Does the poster think that gay men wouldn't know about periods? They cover that in sex-ed in school, so most mature adults won't be bothered by it.
The not-so mature ones are fun in their own way, the rest of us can just freak them out by talking about periods.

Jezebel's Evil Sister

I remember when I had my first period that my mother told my father when he got home and I was mortified because I didn't want him to know about such things. But shortly thereafter he'd routinely pick up the tampons if he was the one doing the shopping and no one thought anything of it.

What the hell? One of my aunts left my poor cousin woefully underprepared for her period. (Fundie, of course.) A gay man can't do that much worse. And to be blunt, it's much less embarrassing for a girl to ask Dad to take her to CVS than it is to not have pads/tampons at all.

Can't the girl go to the drugstore and buy them herself? If she needs advice, she can always ask a female store clerk.

Then again, if she's a fundie, she'll probably try to use a bible to make the "curse" go away.

I'm gay, and I've had to buy tampons for my mother and for a female houseguest. Was I supposed to have had some sort of issue (no, not that kind of issue!) about doing so?

ETA: Women are supposed to be put apart during their curse anyway. Haven't you ever read the Bible?

I resent that. I'm straight, single, and I have 2 daughters and I have no problem with any of it.

Ok, so

My teenage daughter often asks my husband for hygiene products, even if I'm available. It's her one chance to make her dad squirm and she loves it.

My mother died when I was six and when I hit puberty I had to ask my Dad to buy pads for me or I'd buy them for myself. No embarrassment at all.

What a perfect excuse to go to the store in drag! As long as one of the dads doesn't trot out the old, "I don't trust anything that can bleed for five days and not die" chestnut, I can't think of a reason for anyone to be embarrassed.

Stupid Fundie, thoughts are for adults.

I ask my Dad to get me some even though he and my Mum have been happily married for over 25 years. Sometimes it's just easier than going to the shop yourself.

When I started my period my entire family got a phone call to relay the joyous news. Talking to your gay father about going to the store to get pads cannot be anymore embarrassing than that was. Gay men do have mothers and sisters too, they kinda know what happens to a girl at puberty.
