Quote# 46293

I must have missed that example Ed and I'm sorry, but I did say this earlier and I'll repeat it here. Scientists in a lab have effectively slowed down and even stopped light. With that being said, there is no way to accurately assume the speed of light is a constant around the universe. Light could be slowing down or speeding up, or for all we know even stopped in the universe. It's fact that speed of light can be manipulated, so to assume it stays constant is only an assumption at best.

You fail. Speed of light IN A VACUUM is constant.

Whatever you think you're talking about, trust me, you haven't a fucking clue.

Stopped light? Damn,, they found the switch!

I can slow down light by shining a torch thru a pane of glass, dimbo

Sorry guys, real sceince. It's been done. Slowed and stopped. Has to be done under very specific labratory circumstances and I've never heard of a natural scenario or theory for one.

Also, no one has ever boosted the speed of light (least not yet).

I wonder about the context of this.

a mind far far away

There should be a law saying you have to have at least a certain IQ before you can use the interwebs. Then maybe we wouldn't have to see so much dumb shit like this.

Nate!

Come now, Mind, if there *weren't* shit like this how would I spend my work hours? Working? I think not!

Half a statement? The speed of light is constant in a VACUUM.
A photon of light takes 3000 years to get from the center of the sun to the chromosphere, then 8 minutes 14 seconds to get from the chromosphere to planet earth.
Speed of light is affected by the medium it is travelling through (glass, water ....) and by gravitational force.
Your ignorance of even basic science is profound.

Actually, scientists DID increase the speed of light in 2208 to allow for faster travel.

Scientists have even learned to absorb light by using something called black!

DERP. LIGHT IS LIKE SOOO WEIRD.

Yes, light speed can be manipulated...by passing it through different substances, like Glass, water, air, Ect. That is why when you stick a straw into a glass of water, the straw appears to have jumped and is in two parts; the light is traveling at two different speeds.

Now, in a vacuum, the speed is constant, because there is nothing to get in the way of the light. So it is allowed to travel it's fastest; like a car down an empty freeway. So if we shine a light into your left ear, it will travel at about 3.0x10^8 m/s out your right ear.

What's an "example Ed"?

Yes, that's right. And the manga by Hirohiko Araki, "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" is a non-fiction story, which includes an actual person who can stop time:

MUDA DA!
MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA!
ZA WARUDO!
TOKI WO TOMARE!

...Soshite, toki ga ugoki desu.

ORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORA...

WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

(Personally, I prefer "Ikkitousen" to "JJBA", but the latter is good for some memes, at least)
