Or maybe Christians cling to God because they're desperate to believe there is something more in the universe, that there is something after death, and that they are not as insignificant as they feel.

You know, saying it over and over again isn't going to make it any less false.
9/1/2008 12:09:23 AM
You fail at psycology.
9/1/2008 12:18:57 AM
You know they could just not believe in God!!!!!!
9/1/2008 12:20:32 AM
Hurt people- hurt people. I think christians have gone through something painful in their lives. Most of us have gone through something painful in life. Some people cling, cry out to or look for and find Thor. By saying they dis-believe in Thor, they believe that they are striking back at or hurting Him in some way.
Makes just as much sense.
9/1/2008 12:25:42 AM
Hurt has nothing to do with it. They just don't believe. Why can't you get that through your thick skull?
9/1/2008 12:33:06 AM
My hurt was discovering, after years of anguished prayers, that God doesn't exist.
9/1/2008 12:35:24 AM
uh, no. Can't hurt what doesn't exist.
9/1/2008 12:48:11 AM
There's no hurt involved. If you don't like it, leave. It's no different than walking out on a crappy movie.
9/1/2008 12:53:31 AM
Nope. I strike back at Shiva when I'm angry, that'll teach that old bastard a lesson!
9/1/2008 12:58:12 AM
Well sure I’ve had painful times. That’s life, who hasn’t? If you need to cling to imaginary father figures for comfort that’s your hang up not mine. Some of us aren’t clingy crybabies I guess.
"By saying they dis-believe in God, they believe that they are striking back at or hurting Him in some way."
No they don't. You fail.
9/1/2008 1:10:03 AM
Whatever it takes to make you feel better.
9/1/2008 1:12:41 AM
I can hurt gods as much as I can insult Bush's intelligence.
9/1/2008 1:28:16 AM
Wrong answer, thanks for playing.
9/1/2008 1:30:25 AM
...or we're just not believing in him because "God's comfort" in rough times is purely imagined...if that.
9/1/2008 1:39:19 AM
My hurt was the realization that I spent my youth and young manhood trying to digest bullshit.
9/1/2008 2:07:48 AM
yes, saying I don't believe something exists means I am trying to hurt that something I do not believe exists.
9/1/2008 2:12:41 AM
But He doesn't exist, so why would I want to hurt Him?
9/1/2008 2:20:55 AM
Allegory for Jesus
Idiots. They really don't understand anything about lacking belief in god, do they? They always claim atheism to be hatred of an invisible entity specific to their religion, and nothing more (and completely unrelated to any other religions as well). It is maddeningly simplistic, condescending, and dumb.

@Amanda: "Or maybe Christians cling to God because they're desperate to believe there is something more in the universe, that there is something after death, and that they are not as insignificant as they feel."
I tend to think it's entirely because they have a desperate, overwhelming need to believe that their existence isn't the result of a meaningless accident.
They absolutely cannot conceive of humanity not having some ultimate "purpose" for being here.
9/1/2008 2:48:56 AM
This really gets on my nerves when christers say this shit. It goes to show that they haven't the slightest clue what atheism is, and what atheists believe.. or don't. It shows just how idiotic they really are.

My butt feels itchy. Should I scratch it?
You're such a knowledgeable person about what I think and feel, I thought I ought to consult you about it.
9/1/2008 5:50:06 AM
Actually, I just figure that it's far more likely that God doesn't exist. And if he does, he's an absolute asshole, so I wouldn't worship him anyway.
9/1/2008 6:39:51 AM
I think atheists have gone through something painful in their lives.
Yes, a pain called religion.
