"PS: What do you have against "greenies"? People who think green are trying to keep the earth's treasures from being exhausted/extinct."

This thread is an extension of the other because of all the posts about drowning polar bears. The truth was lost in fabrication, and I thought it needed clarifying with it's own thread.

What I have against the green lobbyist, or "greenies", is that their need to save the planet God gave us steps on the needs of real live human beings.

There is this scripture in the Bible that says in the last days things will get so twisted that wrong will become right. I think we're there.

GOD gave us these resources to use. He put us about the earth, plant life and all the animals by giving us "dominion" and told us to "subdue" them. He made it abundantly clear these things were here for our purpose.

Now people are losing their jobs, in a time that record numbers are losing their homes. Real people with real issues that need real help. It's not a question of "do I think green, or love the polar bears", it's a question of "do we love our neighbor as ourselves". It's a question of priorities.

"There is this scripture in the Bible"

You put that forward as 'proof'?

Fail..

God may have given you dominion over the planet, but you certainly haven't been keeping it up well.

Any time things change, there are winners and losers. How many companies have "typing pools" now that we all have computers? On the other hand, how many new IT jobs are there? What happened to the old pay phone repair man's job now that we all have cell phones? But how many jobs were created by cell phones?

It's the same with "green". The people who stand to lose, like oil companies and car manufacturers making big SUVs, are the ones who are griping - and sucking people like Dogartdog into fearing the changes. In my own neighborhood, there's an "environmental consulting" company. They're not griping! Farmers are making a fortune selling corn for ethanol. People are making solar panels and wind turbines. Companies are switching from volatile solvent to water based products. We're using the methane from garbage dumps to make electricity, instead of dumping it in the air for our kids to breathe. Who's making the methane recovery equipment?

The money from one person's pocket to support "green" is going into someone else's pocket, and that person's money is going to buy the products that supply the rest of us with jobs.

Don't believe oil company propaganda.

If you loved your neighbours at all, you would put an end to the pollution that's causing them respiratory problems.

A polluted, over-populated, over-built earth steps on the needs of real live human beings.

I think this is the first time in over a year I've used the f-word on this form but this bastard deserves it.

You think we can just screw with nature? We think we've 'subdued' nature a hundred times over. And what happens, nature twitches, like in New Orleans, and we die like flies.

FUCKWIT!

Yes, it is a question of balancing priorities, of determining what is urgent and what is necessary.

However, if you can tell me why killing polar bears will keep people from losing their jobs, I'd be grateful.

Economy dropping? Grab your guns and kill a polar bear. The economy will skyrocket when those furry balls of joy and fear are all wiped out.

Apply now and get a free box of deer slugs.

@ John: Absolutely fantastic points.

The use of Genesis to back up an anti-environmentalist position always raises my hackles, and I suppose it'd be worse if I were Christian. Our bosses give us things to work with, whether it's hot grease and frozen french fries or welding equipment and steel. We're not supposed to waste them. Most of us were entrusted with something at some point by our parents: the car, our younger siblings for a few hours, the house for a few hours, money to go to the store with. They expected everything to be all in one piece and used wisely. Why do these idiots then think their God wants us to waste what we have, let animals die, etc?

This one thinks that no polar bears have actually drowned due to global warm causing the ice to melt BECAUSE there are no drowned polar bear bodies washing up wherever. She can't understand that when something drowns in the middle of the ocean IT SINKS TO THE BOTTOM AND THINGS EAT IT.

The polar bear problem, the job losing problem and the home losing problems are all caused by republicans. They should be removed from power. It's a question of priorities.

"GOD gave us these resources to use. He put us about the earth, plant life and all the animals by giving us "dominion" and told us to "subdue" them."

Yes, but he never told us to abuse them and wreck the place. Say my parents going on a trip and leaving me the house. Do I fill the place with gasoline and light it on fire? No. Should we ruin the world God gave us? No.

Another right winger pushing the lie that environmentalists are starry-eyed nature freaks who just think polar bears are cute and green trees are preeeetty.

This reminds me again that I think the environmental lobby needs to work harder to change their frame from "we're saving the earth" to "we're saving our species." Nature will go on in spite of and/or without us. The question is, are we going to change it so much that we destroy much of humanity, if not all of it?

Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

That sounds to me as though God meant us to take good care of his creation.

Dominion = responsible stewardship.

If human beings destroy the planet we will bring about our own apocalypse.
