Quote# 47456

Yeah.

SCIENCE IS A RELIGION. Because many people believe in it. And that makes it a system of beliefs, which is definitely the meaning of religion. Ten years from now, there will be science churches and scientific priests. They will rule the world. They will teach the ultimate truth to the innocents. And those innocents will believe. And they will later replace those scientists and make a more advanced and precise system of beliefs. And they will give birth to another form of religion. And Christianity will evaporate. And everybody will be god. And no one will ever remember that there is a Supreme Being, a friend, a father, and most of all, a brother, who created everything.

And yes, people will definitely like the modern system. I couldn't blame them. What more could they ask? Everything is being fed. There are proofs, evidences, scientific explanations..... there is absolutely NO REASON to doubt science. And if that's the beauty of it, i'd rather resort to the older system. Though there are doubts, regrets, unexplained, uncertainties......WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT BEING PRECISE?? AND FOR GOD'S SAKE, WHO ARE WE TO BE SO WISE THAT WE ARE NOW ABLE TO KNOW GOD, TO EXPLAIN HIS EXISTENCE BY NUMBERS AND TERMS THAT WE CREATED??!!!!

Yeah.

SCIENCE IS A RELIGION.

But does it have a god??
Where??

Yeah but our beliefs are based on evidence, making us.. science.

"Ten years from now, there will be science churches and scientific priests. They will rule the world. They will teach the ultimate truth to the innocents. And those innocents will believe."

"And Christianity will evaporate. And everybody will be god."

These are all awesome things.

The rest is tl:dr about how atheist religions are uncool or something.

Well, I don't want my beliefs to be an emotional crutch, I don't want your damn invisible brother, I CARE ABOUT BEING PRECISE DAMMIT.

SCIENCE IS A RELIGION. Because many people believe in it. And that makes it a system of beliefs, which is definitely the meaning of religion.

- So if I were to read this rant and believe it, would that make howtothinklikegodism a religion? You are confusing 'belief' with 'faith'

Ten years from now, there will be science churches and scientific priests. They will rule the world. They will teach the ultimate truth to the innocents. And those innocents will believe.

- Why in 10 years all of a sudden? What about the previous thousands of years that science has existed?

And they will later replace those scientists and make a more advanced and precise system of beliefs.

-Sort of like a virus?....Sort of like Christianity?

And everybody will be god. And no one will ever remember that there is a Supreme Being, a friend, a father, and most of all, a brother, who created everything.

- (citation needed)

And yes, people will definitely like the modern system. I couldn't blame them. What more could they ask? Everything is being fed. There are proofs, evidences, scientific explanations..... there is absolutely NO REASON to doubt science.

- Bang! That was the sound of your credibility crumbling around you.

- Yeah, you'd rather go back to a 2,000 year old 'system' of 'making up crap' than use the highly reliable scientific method because.... (no actual reason given)

Yeah.

SCIENCE IS A RELIGION.

- (citation needed)

But does it have a god??

- no, one is not necessary

Where??

-nowhere

And I assume you will gladly follow this religion if you have any disease that cannot be healed by following christianity, only by cures developed by science ;)

Waiting for God

Foolish mortal.

Religion: a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

(1st entry for noun: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/religion)

Science: a branch of knowledge or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws: the mathematical sciences.

(Again, 1st entry for noun: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/science)

So, religion deals with the creation of superhuman entities, note: the use of the term creation impies created by mankind. Science deals with facts and truths.

Science does not make statements it cannot support with evidence and truths. Why do you think fundie logic fails at every hurdle when trying to refute science? Superhuman, by it's definition implies that the knowledge required to know truths about it are beyond the abilities of humans, ergo superhuman.

Science is a system, a system which can be dissected and shown to work at every level.

Religion is nothing but unsupported conjecture, making it up as you go along. It does not stand up to dissection, it does not stand up to criticism or investigation.

We have no need to worship science, even though it has given us everything we have. Science requires no worship only understanding.

again with the supposed "science/evolution/whatever-I-don't-believe-in is a religion" bullshit. and once again, religion involves WORSHIP, which science does not promote. there is no god of science because there IS NO GOD.

see I can do random caps too, so there.

People whose lives depend on properly made medications

The chief characteristic of a scientific religion is that its curses (and blessings) really work - Isaac Asimov.

In other words, if such a thing ever did come about, it'd still have infinitely more relevance and value to humanity than the meaningless ravings, wistful daydreams and ineffective prayers of your creepy cult and its utterly inert god.

You don't understand science.

Science examines the observable, then uses the evidence to work out the answers to wider questions.

Religion decides on specific answers, then scours the observable for things that support their conclusion.

The important difference is that scientific answers are dynamic, being adjusted the moment a single piece of contradictory evidence is revealed. This handy mechanism helps to prevent scientists from being complete fucking morons and believing the same bullshit for 2000 years.

Science is what comes after religion. This is the natural progression of a thinking species from savagery to civilization. Superstition must fade so that reason can guide us to a better, less violent and bigoted way of life.

So bassically what you're saying is, Yes I know science has all the proof and evidence whilst Christianity has none but um... Couldn't we all just please ignore that stick our heads in the sand and believe anyway?

And by the way, I think you should look up the defenition of religion in a dictionary.

SCIENCE IS A RELIGION.

The dictionary says you're an idiot.

Because many people believe in it.

::facepalm::

And that makes it a system of beliefs, which is definitely the meaning of religion.

Will someone get this guy a dictionary?

Ten years from now, there will be science churches and scientific priests.

Riiiiiight...

They will rule the world. They will teach the ultimate truth to the innocents.

At least it would be better than what you guys are peddling.

And those innocents will believe. And they will later replace those scientists and make a more advanced and precise system of beliefs. And they will give birth to another form of religion.

Wut?

And Christianity will evaporate. And everybody will be god.

W00t!

And no one will ever remember that there is a Supreme Being, a friend, a father, and most of all, a brother, who created everything.

And that's bad how?

And yes, people will definitely like the modern system. I couldn't blame them. What more could they ask? Everything is being fed. There are proofs, evidences, scientific explanations..... there is absolutely NO REASON to doubt science. And if that's the beauty of it, i'd rather resort to the older system.

Like how if you had a serious illness, all ou had to do was turn a cat 3 times over your head?

Conclusions drawn using the scientific method are often found to be incorrect, and are replaced with better conclusions. This is the strength of the scientific process, and is a phenomenon that never happens in religion. In short, science is a process of continual discovery while religion is a mire of intellectual stagnation.

Religion can't be used to cure cancer, build bridges, discover planets, link genes with gene functions, predict weather, produce better crops, etc.

Does science require faith? You bet. It requires an inconfirmable belief that the world is real and has predictable properties. This doesn't make it a religion, but just another metaphysical system.

"SCIENCE IS A RELIGION."

No, its the complete opposite of religion.

"Because many people believe in it."

No science is accepted based on evidence and nothing else, it has no dogma, no doctrine, no theology, no priests, etc.
