Religious people have moral guidance which comes from God, atheists have nothing. The legal system is just to keep atheists in place. If it wasn't for the law, atheists would rob old ladies and set children on fire.

If that is how you REALLY feel then it means that you honestly believe that your religious laws and societal laws are the only things keeping you in check. So, tell me, how does it feel to be a sociopath?
Unlike religious people who, without legal system in force would start to persecute unbelievers and burn them at a stake, or invade foreign countries and kill all, men, women, children as well as cattle, because they think god told them to do it ;)

People have actually done these amazing things called "Scientific Experiments" where they research the claims that people like you pull out of their ass. What these "sociologists" concluded is that morality is genetic as they found no difference in moral decision making between the religions, no difference between the religious and the athiests and no difference between people raised in a culture of religion and those raised in still existing primitive societies.

As to burnings, these were done in the name of God by Christians. In western culture there are no records of atheists performing aby burnings of people in the past 1,000 years or more.

So how come I keep hearing about children with diabetes being denied insulin by parents who believe God will heal them, children dying or being beaten in exorcism attempts, children who are molested by priests, etc?
Actually, if you look at it logically, Atheists do not set old ladies on fire, or beat up children because they CHOOSE not to. It is the "Christians" who don't do these things because of law, and the fear of being punished by skydaddy, or the cop on the corner. When there is no cop on the corner, and "Christians" feel they can get away with it, they beat, kill, burn, bomb, rape, and pillage with little or no restraint.
Makes you wonder who is more "Moral" doesn't it?

The Stalinist pogroms were against Jews, homosexuals, Ukrainians, and several different groups of dissenters. They had nothing to do with murderous atheists, and far more to do with keeping Stalin and crew in power.
And if you follow the logic in that statement, it means that religious people have no morals at all. They're just obeying orders because their master says so.

An atheist who acts morally without believing there is a reward for doing so is FAR superior because they will never think God told them to kill someone.

Seriously, if a person is thinking about doing something wrong, why is it different to hold back because of society's laws than it is to hold back because of God's?
The truly moral position is to do right things because you know they're right, and avoid wrong things because you know they're wrong, regardless of the fear of punishment or considerations of reward from any entity, be it a deity or the government.

Er, no actually. I have never had a desire to set children, or anybody else on fire, YOU are the people that are threatening children with being set on fire for eternity if they don't worship your sky pixie.
Also, history has proven that if we don't have laws to prevent religious discrimination religious people will harass, attack, and even murder people who don't follow there religion willy-nilly. Therefore the laws exist at least in part to keep religious people in place.

Lots of fundy Christians in prison, Mike. They commit just as many crimes as atheists or non-Christians.
Athiests and agnostics don't need a threat of eternal hellfire in order to be good people. Religious people do. The legal system is just to keep religious fundies in place. If it wasn't for the law, ultra-religious would burn women at the stake, tie people to Judas chairs, have them broken and/or roasted on the wheel, etc. etc.
So Mike, how many old ladies did you rob before you were saved? How many children did you set on fire before Jesus came into your heart (or whatever)?

Are you that afraid of the legal system? Are you so unimaginative that you couldn't figure out how to do these things with no chance of being caught? Surely it wasn't conscience that was stopping you, as your screed suggests you do not believe such a thing exists.
Atheists have morals. One does not need god nor religion to be moral.
One does not need be moral to have religion.
In fact many people who have god have no morals and are often hypocrites. Just look at Josh Duggar
Seems that religion isn't necessary for morals. Empathy though makes for much more of a good basis for morality.
