Quote# 4769

...reasons why i believe... For one thing, believing that there is an all-powerful God out there who not only made the universe but cares enough about our fate to become his own atoning sacrifice for us is something that gives life meaning... Personally, I wouldn't wish to live a pointless life.

Thoug i hate to say it, this is Christianity in a nutshell.

You believe because you think your life only has whatever meaning that belief will give it?

Okay, but don't expect anyone else to see that as a logical reason.

So your purpose is to be a divine bootlick. Good to know.

Every religion could give you a different life meaning. You could any of them. Please don't just choose what you were brought up in.

You aren't even limited to what religions can offer. Religion hasn't trademarked The Meaning of Life contrary to popular opinion. You could choose your own meaning.

While this person makes me sad, they aren't terribly fundie. You could reason with this guy. Ignorant, but not terribly extreme.

I read his whole post. the guy's a nut. I change my mind.

You believe because you want to... makes sense.

Someone took the blue pill.
And I'd reap the benefits of being a good person in this life than just sit on my ass and say 'Jesus will take care of it'.

Dr. Shrinker

I have my family, my work, my hobbies and my goals. I would hardly say that I live a pointless life. Please spare me the inevitable, "you only think you're happy," tripe that your lot always responds to those assertions with. Cowering in fear of ethereal forces does not sound to me like a sound basis for a genuinely happy life.

Quantum Mechanic

Yours is a particularly pointless life, believing ridiculous horse shit like that.

I really can't see the sense in this fundie sentiment, never could.
Existance is enough.
That there has to be a point or reason for your life is a religious concept that is implanted early on. Not being indoctrinated I've never cared about a meaning to life.

That of course implies a designer and a plan. That of course thousands of con-men can use to set themselves up as leaders.

So don't live a pointless life: be nice to people and enjoy the world around you.

> Thoug i hate to say it, this is Christianity in a nutshell.

Add the fantasies arising from a desire to have control over random events and from a fear of death, then it would be.

So, something that might have happened 2000 years ago gives your life meaning?
Meanwhile, people are starving to death by the thousands each day, people die of preventable diseases due to lack of resources, children are born with lethal birth defects which kill them within hours. Your all-powerful God does nothing.

But your life has meaning because some dude allegedly died on a cross two millennia ago. Great!

Then don't. But don't profess to think that my life is because of what YOU believe.

Unfortunately, being a plaything of an omnipotent being does make your life worthless. Especially one that doesn't exist.

1/26/2012 4:33:25 PM

I wouldn't call this 'fundie', just sorta naive.

7/5/2012 2:23:45 PM

You just want to feel special. Fuck off.
