(Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrating family reunion, which falls on Sep. 14th this year.)
Should the MidAutumn Festival be removed?
The origins are definitely unChristian, we can say for sure. It has nothing to do with Christianity, Jesus, or God. It is to do with an archer, a moon goddess, suns or rabbits. It dates back over 3000 years and so to continue with this tradition is very wrong, I feel.
I personally think it should be removed. It is unChristian, nothing do with Christianity. Christians like myself find it false because the true God is jealous if we worship other Gods. “You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God” (Exodus 20:4-5).
I am a firm Christian, believes in the Word of the Bible.

"The origins are definitely unChristian, we can say for sure."
Sorry to disappoint you, Thomas, but the only real Christian holidays commonly observed are St. Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day. Easter, Halloween, and yes, even Christmas...all those holidays first got started by those pagans that get the undies of so many "good Christian folks" bunched up like nothing else.
So it's not Christain? So what?
They probably are not Christains, so leave them alone.
You win an Asshole Award.
If your jealous little god doesn't get all the attention, will he throw a temper tantrum?
Sorry if we don't all want to grovel at the feet of a petulant diety.
You mean you Borg-like Christians have not assimilated that holiday yet? What's got into you lazy bastards? You didn't even bother to change the name of Easter, so why don't you just cover it with Jesus-cooties, call it a Jelly Apple and EAT IT?
Then don't celebrate it! But you shouldn't bully other people into your beliefs.
ps. Birthdays don't have anything to do with God, Christianity or Jesus, either. Better avoid those, too.
Okay, fine. Just give back Yule, Easter, and Halloween and stop claiming our holidays as your own! Nothing is "christian" because you STOLE the holidays from Pagans! They were, and will always be pagan NOT Christian. Also, if you want to be like that then just celebrate St. Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day. Since, well...I really don't. I feel no need to and Valentine's day is just a day for money, anyways, a PERFECT day for Christians...:)
It is a matter of your opinion that the Christian/Muslim/Jewish god is the real, only, true god.
There is no way that you can prove it.
@ Rat of Steel,
You can take halloween off your 'allowed' list Ratty. It is the ancient Celtic festival of the dead, when the veil between the wrolds was supposed to be at it's thinnest and the Sidhe and the dead could communicate with the living and vice versa.
My Ancestors might just get annoed and place a geas upon you! LOL
An argument could be made that Valentine's Day replaced the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, which was celebrated from February 13 to the 15. While not strictly a festival of romantic love, it did celebrate health and fertility.
or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
Funny that he cites this passage of the bible.
One should ask him where these waters are that are "under the earth". After all this is a clear reference to a belief in flat earth
If the "true God" is perfect, how can he be jealous?
If the "true God" is omnipotent, what could he be jealous about?
And if we do the same to you, you cry persecution.
So shut the fuck and kill yourself you bottomless pit of metal retardation.
"I am a firm Christian,"
O_o
Oh, hell. How many ethnic groups are we exporting this Fundie crap to? It started with the Scotch-Irish, and now it's infecting the Chinese, too?
And of course, there are also the famous Madraks of Demonbuster.com--Madrak being an Arabic surname. And Joe Farrah of WorldNetDaily is Arab-American, too.
If I have to sit through Christmas and Easter, then the Chinese are more than welcome to their cultural festival.
Hell, they don't even say it is a particularly religious festival. Don't fundies believe in families or something?
1) If you have such a problem with it, don't celebrate it.
2) Christmas, Easter, etc. all have pagan roots.
To begin with it isn't a religious holiday it is the celebration of the harvest. The Chinese calendar has 24 seasons - a FARMER's calendar.
ALL christian holidays and festivals have been taken from PAGAN ceremonies.
What should be removed is christianity in toto.
Your god is but one of several thousands - all man-made, all-powerful and of course, the one-true.
Why do christians quote only one verse, yet ignore all the others that contradict?
And this is what I hate about fundies. He's not content to simply abstain from celebrating this holiday because it goes against his beliefs. Oh, no--he wants it "removed" entirely. Never mind that there might be other people who don't believe in his god, and want to celebrate this holiday. To hell with their beliefs--only his have any validity. Fundies want to apply that same attitude to every aspect of our lives. That's what I hate about fundies.
Nothing wrong with this festival. Tolerance is something you have to have to live in the world. Tolerate other cultures and other beliefs and such.
PS. This festival isn't about God or Gods. It's about the wife of the archer who shot down 9 suns floating up to the moon and being forced to live there with a rabbit.
and the Bible is a load of horseshit.
If all these other non-Christian faiths are so evil and hurtful to god, why did the stupid bastard create them in the first place? Well he must have, seeing as he created everything (and in a blitzkrieg six days, no less!!)
Oh, I get it. More red herrings to test the faith of his followers. Followers so weak that their faith needs to be tested by such things as false religions, fake fossils, etc.
Add Thomas Deng to the list of the deluded, the ignorant, and the arrogant ("I don't like it, so it must go!")
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
