I go to a public school, so I'm very qualified to comment on this.
Public school culture is a culture fostered in public school,[1] which is characterized by:
* complete censorship of any classroom prayer
True, but there's a proper time and place to pray, and the classroom is not it. There was a Bible club at my school, but I think it's not meeting anymore, because the club's anti-gay stance offended a lot of people, and because of lack of interest.
* a lack of commitment to respect the religious civil rights of students has resulted in "religion-free zones."
You can pray in homeroom (nobody does, as far as I know), and you're free to discuss religion at lunch and in some classes.
* sex education, homosexual curriculum and sexual abuse by school personnel has been referred to as a "red-light district" for students.
As far as I know, no teacher-student molestation has occurred at my school. There is very little, if any, discussion of homosexuality in the curriculum, but when it is discussed, it's usually with a tolerant attitude. Sex ed (health class) spends most of its time talking about relationships, and very little about sex.
* a culture of incompetence
My school is very well-funded for a public school, so in my case, this is just plain not true.
* fashion that includes black (Goth) clothing
I'd estimate that about 5% of male teens actually wear the goth, metal, or emo styles that you dumbshit fundies lump together into "goth". The other 95% wear a. designer clothes (Abercrombie, Hollister), b. college or pro sports team merchandise, or c. those dumb "I'm a rebul" t-shirts that say things like "Talk to the hand."
* facial piercings and rings, tattoos, and male earrings
Again, there are people that do this, but it's uncommon.
* depressed demeanors
We're at school. How the fuck do you expect us to be happy about it?
* an absence of objective morality; instead, a principal will say someone "made the wrong choice"
"Made the wrong choice" sounds like objective morality to me.
* a sense of hopelessness
Dead wrong.
* a lack of critical thinking about liberal indoctrination
Because "liberal indoctrination" exists only in your addled fundie brains. And I live in a very blue town.
* compulsive profanity
Now exactly what the fuck would lead you to that conclusion?
* general inability to look someone in the eye
I've got ADHD; I can't look at anything for more than two seconds without getting bored.
* extreme anxiety
You go through all the shit I do on a daily basis and we'll see how anxious you are, huh? The grades you get in high school affect the REST OF YOUR LIFE. Getting a few technicalities mixed up on a math quiz can knock a few thousand dollars off your future salary.
* feeling that it is funny to be dumb
Unfortunately, this is true, but mostly for the people who aren't very smart anyway.
* being so accustomed to censorship of ideas that there is genuine surprise when someone actually says something unfamiliar or politically incorrect
This is also true.
* lack of awareness that prayer is censored in public schools and that teachers' unions are very liberal
False. We know, and we don't care.
* alcohol and drug abuse
Also true. There were two guys who died in a drunk driving crash two years ago, and the tree they crashed into is a 5 minute walk from my house.
* disrespect for teachers
Respect for teachers is much like grades - they don't automatically get it, they earn it. I go out of my way to respect good teachers.
* bullying
I haven't seen any in 5 years.
* gang activity
In the inner city, yeah. In the middle-class suburbs? Not on your life.
* prostitution
Not really.
* homosexuality
Well, yeah. If a kid is homosexual, s/he is going to discover it right around high school age.
