So, not being mean to homosexuals = Christian persecution?
9/17/2008 1:26:03 PM
Britain is the most Godless socialist collective I have ever visited and that includes the former USSR Albania Romania and even Holland which is another socialist
- A) Bullshit and B) So what? we seem to do well out of it..
But the UK is the only nation which has a motto Dieu et Mon Droit and a Monarch which is Supreme Governor of the Church of England
- More's the pity, but at least we have her where she should be, at arms length as a powerless figurehead
and a government which actively persecutes Christians (try refusing homosexuals anything they want!)
- Oh no! not the age old right of the Christian to discriminate! Next they'll try and force you to read books!
so the article is not even close to the problem. The country is on its knees now in every sense except the only one which will save it.
- On its knees? (citation needed). I'd prefer to be on my knees than prostrate in front of some barbarous fictional deity...

Another one who claims they're being "persecuted" because their wacked-out religious beliefs say they should discriminate against gays and the law won't allow it. I suppose because we search people for explosives, we're also "persecuting" suicide bombers by not letting them follow their wacked-out religious beliefs, either.

Britain is NOT persecuting Christians. Sheesh.
9/17/2008 1:36:51 PM
Uhm, hello? Romania is one of Europe's most religious country!
9/17/2008 1:48:44 PM
The British no longer even kill Catholics.. Reading that critique of my country makes me proud to be British.
9/17/2008 2:04:29 PM
Sounds like a damned tourism brochure to me!
9/17/2008 2:14:46 PM
Socialist collective? Centre-right, at the very least. New Labour is more in bed with big business and private finance than the Tories ever were.
The Queen is a non-political figurehead, good for tourism.
Giving homosexuals rights has no connection with persecuting Christians.
There are churches in every city, town and village whose doors are open to believers. Some people go, most don't. And you know what? It's a free choice, and nobody gets criticised for it.
This is off the wall, even for the Torygraph.

Kid, ever bothered visiting Holland? They have legal pot.

Both US political parties are to the right of center of European politics, so to an American religious nut, who thinks the Democratic party is as close to communism you can actually come without calling it communism, UK politics is even further to the left.
9/17/2008 3:05:18 PM
We do not actively persecute Christians, please cite your sources for that assertion.
9/17/2008 3:15:44 PM
"Britain is the most Godless socialist collective I have ever visited..." ?
Thank you very much, very good of you to say so. Makes me proud...
9/17/2008 3:20:31 PM
You're right, of course. I just can't get used to 'liberal' being a term of abuse. On this side of the pond it's usually applied to somebody who's generous and easy-going. That and an amiable political party whose exact purpose evades me.
Can't see 'V' coming back, though. That's a relief.

I always find it funny that we have a state religion (C of E), yet we seem to be less in the pocket of religion than the US.
9/17/2008 3:43:16 PM
You know what? You're right and I'm damn proud of it.
9/17/2008 3:58:54 PM
I think it was John Mortimer who said the Church of England God is an elderly gentleman not particularly interested in religion.
9/17/2008 4:00:08 PM
This is a huge pile of self-contradictory fail.
9/17/2008 4:06:16 PM
...a government which actively persecutes Christians (try refusing homosexuals anything they want!)
So, they're being mean to you by saying you have to treat us like normal human beings. How dare they?!
9/17/2008 4:15:12 PM
9/17/2008 5:12:24 PM
Yes, despite technically having a state religion, Britain is much more secular then the supposedly secular USA, that's why it's an awesome country. Well one reason. I would be willing to live there, when I would never want to live in the US.
9/17/2008 5:15:28 PM
None of your business, fundipants.
9/17/2008 5:15:32 PM
Egad, this guy thoroughly misunderstood the points of the movie from which his username was taken! He should have taken the username "Fingerman" instead.

'A government which actively persecutes Christians...'
There are twenty-four bishops and two archbishops in the House of Lords. One or two would have noticed this heinous assault on their income.
Actually, that's a bit unfair. There's nowt wrong with the Archbishop of York.

"But the UK is the only nation which has a motto Dieu et Mon Droit"
"Dieu et Mon Droit" is French for "God and My Right."
How does this mean "Christians Persecuted Here While U Wait"?
9/17/2008 8:59:26 PM
It brings a teeny tiny tear of joy to my eye to know that a fundy was moved to such vitriol about our little nation. Means we must be doing it right =D
