Are you totally stupid, Dear Buzzard? Catholic Christianity is all that there was for the first 1,500 years after Christ. It probably has a better claim, on that basis alone, to be the real Christianity.
I don't see much tolerance, holiness, love, peace, charity or wisdom among the countless splinters that broke off from Lutheranism and it's sister splinter churches either.
So it would be easy enough to draw equally uncomplimentary diagrams to portray any of the break-away groups that call themselves Christian.
But actually Christianity has little enough to do with Jesus. The term Christ, from which Christianity emerges, is essentially Pauline. So Paulinity would be a better description of your church. Paul subverted Jesus. The scriptures themselves, though they try to hide it, show that there was a real ding-dong row going on between the followers of Jesus and those of Paul. Read Acts closely and observe.
Now tell me you are Christian and know what it means. A Christian is one who rejects Jesus for the heresy of Paul.
Gotta love them arrows. They add so much clarity to the picture.
Is this a BuzzardNuts original, or stolen from Chick?
The delightful fallacy of this graphic is that it depends on asserting that there are nefarious properties to X, that no one else can see. One could replace the top part of the iceberg with normal/tolerant ideas about Jewish people, and the submerged part with stereotypes of Jewish bankers controlling the world.
It all depends on the idea of "It's really evil! But no one sees it but me!"
What I see:
FUUUUNDIIIIIEEEES
"I don't see much tolerance, holiness, love, peace, charity or wisdom"
Those are all BAD things to fundies (except maybe the holiness). They would be FLATTERED to hear you say this.
Buzzardhut is actually Satan intent on bringing about the downfall of all Christians.
I use the same line of arguement as he does to support my conclusion. Cause I said so.
Actually, his flawed understanding of history makes my theory seem more likely, although not as likely as him just being a run of the mill crazy fanatic who doesn't know anything about the faith he supposedly follows...
It might be sad for you, but the turning away from the "true way of Jesus" if there was any, probably already began with Paul of Tharsus (and was finished with the elemination of all early christian by pauline christianity in the 6th century)
So your (protestant christian) religion is as right or wrong wrong as the catholic one, as you base your belief on the same books as the catholics ;)
@Xotan
Almost. The Orthodox Churches split around 1054 in the Great Schism separating Western and Eastern Christendom.
In the West though (West meaning the majority of Europe), you're right. Catholicism was Christianity there until 1517 and the start of the Protestant Reformation.
Though you're right. If any denomination has the ability to lay claim as the original franchise--it's probably Catholicism.
ooohhh...there's nothing like cheezy graphics to give me a laugh.
G'head, fight it out for the title of One True Church. Just keep the bloodshed to yourselves.
Inquisitions, Mystery, White Magic, Sorcery, hocus Pocus...
Are you sure you're confusing RK with Harry Potter again?
Popish plots? Shouldn't that be Papal?
And WHAT exactly, is the Pope plotting, oh wise Buzzardnuts?
@ Parallax:
So would 'Indulgences'.
Actually, homosexuality is implied under "abominations".
Also... wtf. Sure, a church that has survived for 1500 years is "The False Prophet"... right... didn't Jesus say something about the "church never falling"?
I mean, I don't even like the Catholic Church-- they got some hierarchy and political shit that needs to be fixed, but they're still standing after all these years.
...the poster who referenced the Minbari War -- you win a thousand internets. Babylon 5 rocked.
I wonder what God sees when he looks at rapture ready? Maybe a group of self-righteous arrogant cultists who call themselves the only "true Christians", place their political beliefs in his mouth, and insult other Christian's faiths, while worshipping an idea not found in the Bible!
'I take it he's not a fan of the Catholic Church.'
Fundies hate everyone different from them. In the words of Gunnery Sgt. Hartman (FULL METAL JACKET), anyone who disagrees with them is 'all equally worthless'.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
