I realize that actually understanding your own government is against the fundie code, as it might reveal that you are not, in fact, being persecuted for your faith, but we have an order of succession in this country. Provided nothing changes, in the event the world is done the monumental favor of having McCain and Palin raptured away after being elected then Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the House) would become President. After her it's Democratic Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia.
If McCain/Palin are both unable to hold the office of President, I doubt Pelosi or Byrd would assume the position of president. The Speaker of the House during Nixon's second term was a Democrat, and he stated that because the public voted in Nixon/Agnew as President, he could not in good faith take charge of the country, and he said he would resign immediately if it came to that.
For one thing, I'm not sure Pelosi, Byrd, or any other sitting Democrat in the order of succession has the integrity to make such a statement, noble though it is. For another, in the event of rapture (the focus of this hypothetical) there'd surely be no Republicans to be found anyway because they are all as pure as driven snow and will sit at the right hand of the Lord.
McCain won't be raptured - he believes in evolution.
