During a telephone interview later in the day, Popescu reasserted his view. "A young man asked me what I think of homosexual marriages and I said I think homosexuals should be executed," he said. "My whole reason for running is the Bible and the Bible couldn't be more clear on that point."

DIAGDF!!!
Die in a God Damned Fire. Asshole! Bigoted, vitriol spewing, closet case ASSHOLE!
And he's in my home province, too... :( Jesus...one more reason for me to flee Alberta screaming.
Unfortunately for David Popescu, Canada has hate speech legislation and he's being investigated for potentially violating it. He made his bonehead comment at a high school all-candidates debate as well. It wasn't well received.
To be clear, I'm not a big fan of "hate speech" laws as they have the potential for abuse. One classic case would be being accused of being an anti-Semite for criticizing the state of Israel for the ill-treatment of Palestinians (I'm not talking terrorists here).
But that's an issue for another discussion.
Banning gay marriage is unconstitutional. What? That's right. Marriage is a religious institution correct. And there are some liberal churches out there, like the Universalists, who will marry gay people. Telling these churches that they can't marry gay people is violating their freedom of religion.
Suck on that one fundies.
I guess he also thinks adulterers, people who work on the Sabbath, people who make fun of the bald and people who disobey their parents should be executed, too; the Bible couldn't be more clear on those points either. I guess he wants to create the Canadian Taliban.
Thou shalt not kill.
Do unto others as you would have done to you.
Besides, some choose to interpret Romans and Leviticus as referring to heterosexual temple prostitutes that go against their nature... since the bible is not absolutely clear on this point, maybe a kinder approach would be more in line with WWJD.
I hang my head in shame, I live in Edmonton. Alberta is kind of a Texas of the north and Edmonton (minus a few nutjobs) is like Austin. Fortunately, these religious fuckwads that run for political positions, don't get more than %1 of the vote.
Well, aren't you vile.
And actually, the bible says that you should treat your enemies well, so you can't execute anyone...but...erm, it also says that you should curse them and wish for them to go blind. The bible probably could be more clear on that point...
Canadian_Hoser, I'm unfortunate enough to live in Texas Jr. too. D:
Not all people here think like that, I swear!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
