"Rallymodeller, I'm pretty familiar with the history of colonialism. My dad and I actually did a study on the subject for my social studies class last year. Did you know that colonialism actually brought a lot of good to third world peoples? For example, all the major cities in modern day India (Calcutta, New Delhi, Madras, etc.) were all developed by white people from England and Portugal. If it weren't for white colonialism, India would not have a modern society today. They would still be living in huts and practicing the cast system, etc. Why do you think the English game of cricket is a favorite pasttime of swamis today? If it weren't for the English they'd still be kicking goat's heads around for fun."
Indians already had cities, civilization and science before the white man came, as well as their own sports. Cricket sucks anyways.
"The same goes for Africa. When white colonialists from Belgium, France, England, Spain, etc. controlled Africa, the Africans were happy, they had propsperous business"
They most certainly not happy under colonialism. The Congo Free State is the perfect example besides the fact that the colonies were created through gunboat diplomacy and the people's standard of living there actually became WORSE because of the taxes. It was de-facto indirect slavery, when your economy is completely controlled by a foreign entity and you are taxed on how many "huts" you have, leaving you with nothing.
Oh yeah, business was good for the colonizers but not for the people in the field. They were forced to plant cash crops and ignore real food, which caused the colonial authorities to start selling food from their other colonies at shitty prices. The natives saw very little of the massive profits being made off of their backs and the limited "medical" treatment they did get was only to keep them alive long enough to keep digging up diamonds or work in the field.
The German forced labor system and concentration camps brought happy and prosperous times for Africans in Namibia, not to mention the diamond mines in South Africa and the general forced labor policies brought about by colonial authorities.
"wore clothes and learned English etc."
The majority of colonial holdings weren't British, Will. They wore their own clothes and spoke their own languages.
"They also had advances in scinece and medicine that they don't have today. Now that the colonialists have left Africa, the Africans have totally gone wild because they don't have any civilized people helping them to develop their culture. No wonder they're all running through the jungles, flinging doo at each other and starting up genocidal wars every few weeks!"
Newsflash: the majority of Africa is not jungle, only a few wars have occurred since the wars of independence and civil wars afterwards(which isn't a new concept to "civilized" Europe either. Interesting thing about most of those wars: they were insigated and supported by Washington and the Kremlin during the cold war), and could have gotten their advances in science and medicine through fair trade sans you know, the whole colonial administration thing.
