Lets see:
Since evolution normally works in large time metrics, 10,000 years is hardly enough time to notice drastic, morphological changes.
Also, have you not noticed the distinct morphological differences in humans from different continents? That, my friend, IS evolution. Now before you go crying that is "micro evolution", let me just say that there is NO "micro" and "macro" evolution. Evolution is evolution, period.
All organisms on this planet are nothing more than the sum of their chromosomes, mmk? These chromosomes are constructed of DNA and basically form the blue print for the organism. Now, mutations can happen to DNA from many sources of our environment, some good, some bad, some "double edged". Now let me be clear on this, it is not the environment that "intelligently selects" a gene to mutate. It is independent factors in the environment that randomly change genes in an organism. I will give you a quick example:
40,000 BCE, The continent of Africa. A population of humans has individuals receiving mutations due to a gas fissure out-gassing Radon. Now, some of these people have the genes that regulate cell growth mutated, thus they develop cancer and die. Some have genes mutated in their blood cell manufacture, which then causes their red blood cells to form a "sickle" shape. This causes some problems within these individual, BUT, it also renders them much more resistant to a protozoan disease known as malaria, which is endemic in the region and kills many. Now some others of this population develop a mutation in the cells that produce their gametes(Reproductive cells such as sperm). The mutation occurs at a point on one of the chromosomes that determines eye color. This newly mutated gene renders the eye color as blue, instead of brown.
Now the father's with this mutation(Who are brown eyed themselves.) begin to sire children with blue eyes. Now because superstition is rife in this ancient culture, many of the blue-eyed folk are either shunned or expelled for whatever reason. Or some leave of their own accord with migrations both mixed and homogeneous(In relation to eye color). They travel northeast, towards the Middle East where many brown-eyed individuals settle, but some continue northwest and enter Europe. Europe at this time is locked in one of the cyclic Ice Ages. The brown eyed folk who entered Europe notice they have a much more difficult time in this new environ due to their dark eyes absorbing much more sunlight. Thus they are much more prone to snow blindness. The blue eyed folk of these populations though actually fair much better due to their lighter eyes ability to reflect a great majority of the light glaring off the snow and ice. Thus the blue eyed individuals begin to become more successful at hunting and defending their territory from competitors, such as animals and the much older, and native human species, Neanderthal(Yes, Neanderthals are actually a totally different species than Homo Sapiens, and not an ancestor.). As resources dwindle in the southern regions of Europe, the blue-eyed folk find it much easier to journey northward into the colder climes due to their ease of combating snow blindness and other factors. From this, and the advance of thousands of years, the human populations in Europe begin to become lighter of skin, with the brown-eyed folk sticking towards the warmer climes of southern Europe and the blue-eyed folk becoming hardier in the northern climates. The skin lightening comes from the fact that Europe does not receive the large quantity of solar radiation that Africa does. Thus we see from this, a logical progression of evolved traits that inadvertently did not help in the native environment (Africa), but allowed for a superior survival factor in a new environment (Europe).
Now this is just a brief theoretical summary, that other can surely patch up the proper details, but is merely used as an example to show how evolution works.
Also, just so you know, if you are going to follow this up with “mutations do not add any new information”, I will have to say you are sorely wrong. A new eye color is new information, in that it adds more possibility to the genome as a whole, so instead of brown, you know have brown, green, and blue. Also, chromosomes can fuse. That means two chromosomes can combine together and form a totally new chromosome structure, thus giving a rise to possibilities and information combinations not present in the pre-fused set. Humans, in fact, have a fused chromosome. It is chromosome number two and quite interestingly it matches up with two non-fused chromosomes found in the chimp genome. Makes you wonder, hmmm? Another thing, organisms can be born with EXTRA chromosomes. Downs Syndrome is a case of an extra chromosome 21. Now obviously Downs Syndrome is a detrimental condition, but there are other extra chromosome conditions, mainly with extra Y or X chromosomes, that are not debilitating or life threatening. Sometimes they cause oddities in genital size and gender hormone issues, but they do not impede procreation. If these individuals were to be exposed to an independent factor in their environment, that caused a mutation that was beneficial or neutral, it would result in new information. Thus if, individual reproduced, they would pass on the extra chromosomes AND any new information. If you saw this process happen over time, you would either see it added back into base humanity as new genetic info, or if not compatible, the isolated population would begin to drift towards and become a NEW SPECIES of homo.
From all this, it should be clear that through genes and chromosomes, along with the many known independent factors of environment that occur (radiation, chemical exposure, etc.), that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for evolution to not occur.
Cheers.
