It says that you MAY purchase slaves, but doesn't say you should. Therefore, I don't see what's so bad about this whole thing. I would never own slaves, I think it is morally wrong and despicable. If God thinks it's okay to own slaves, so be it. I don't care because he loves me enough to send his only son to die on a cross and he is not directly forcing me to own slaves.

You're missing one minor detail: Potential slaveowners may have a say in it, but the slaves don't. Why do people who consider this situation always place themselves in the former position rather than the latter? Still, at least you admit that the Bible says what it says on the subject.
It says that you MAY have an abortion, but doesn't say you should. Therefore, I don't see what's so bad about this whole thing. I would never have an abortion [I don't have those kinda parts anyway :P] I think it is okay, but not my business. If doctors thinks it's okay to have an abortion, so be it. I don't care because they want what's best for the patient, as long as the patient agrees.
So why do you think that owning slaves is morally wrong?
Do you think you are morally superior to god? After all you already admitted that owning slaves is O.K. according to the bible and therefore god obviously also doesn´t see anything morally wrong with owning slaves (at least if you believe, the bible is gods word).
And if you really think that your morals are superior to gods morals, doesn´t it give you food for thought? ;)
"If God thinks it's okay to own slaves, so be it. I don't care because he loves me enough to send his only son to die on a cross and he is not directly forcing me to own slaves."
You think slavery is horrible, yet you'd do nothing to help the people being enslaved? You and your pathetic God are both sick twisted fucks.
God is absolutely A-OK with slavery, although he thinks it's not cost-effective if you whomp one so hard that he's out of action for more than two days. And you say he killed his son to show how much he loves you? Sounds a tad harsh. If I were you I'd stay very, very alert.
christisking, I have an opening as a slave at my harem, are you interested?
No wages, you get the scraps from the kitchen when the dogs are done eating, you will live with 59 of your closest fellow slaves in a hut that measures 20x10x10 and you will be handcuffed to your bed at night.
Your workday will be from 5AM to 10PM, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You are NOT allowed to get married.
What do you say? Want the job? Sounds like fun, doesn't it
Ok. I'm so disgusted by this that I'm going to go one lower and Godwin it.
"Hitler thinks it's ok to mass murder the Jews, but I don't care because he's sending his troops out to make the world a better place. He's not directly making me murder Jews."
Let's not forget the Muslims in the Middle East. They kill Christians for being a Christian, don't want Christians in their homelands, and actively torture those who refuse to believe in their lies, yet Christians the world over are crying out against such "evil actions perpetrated against humankind." BUT, it's OK if we do it, because our book said so, and our book is better than your book, even though the Koran actually has more historical veracity than the Bible. The only parts of the Bible that were carefully copied to be as exact as possible was the Law of Moses, which actually reads alot like the Koran. So what makes one violent, hatefilled, blood-lust view better than another?
It says that you MAY purchase slaves [...] I don't see what's so bad about this whole thing.
So if your neighbors come parading down the street with their new Negro slaves, it'll be totally OK with you?
First statement: "I would never own slaves, I think it is morally wrong and despicable."
Second statement: "If God thinks it's okay to own slaves, so be it."

God's okay with it, the bible's okay with it, but you still think it's morally wrong. Congratulations on reaching a very admirable conclusion; now explain to me again how religion gave you your 'moral compass'?
"I would never own slaves, I think it is morally wrong and despicable. If God thinks it's okay to own slaves, so be it."
So God is not the source of your morals?
You even find some of the things your Bible says are OK to be morally wrong and despicable?
Interesting thing for a fundie to admit.
Maybe there is hope for you.
so, according to you:
1) god's morals are shit
2) you take your morals from god
therefore, your morals are shit
EPIC FAIL
'If God thinks it's okay to own slaves...'
There is no 'if'. The Bible gives you instructions on how to do it. If you people were 'true' Christians you'd be out there on the streets 'witnessing' that slavery be re-introduced. And us atheist 'Evilutionists' who've read what Darwin wrote condemning slavery could go out and protest.
It provides licence to do so should you wish! So there were never any slaves or bondswomen in the bible?
Besides, you are looking at only one side or the argument. What happens it YOU are the slave? How do you feel then? God approves, society approves. What worth your protest? A whipping at the least.

The Bible gives you clear instructions on how to beat your slaves in Exodus Ch 21, what's your problem?
21:20 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.
21:21 Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
"If God thinks it's okay to own slaves, so be it. I don't care because..."
... I am not a slave, so it doesn't affect me, personally. And I really don't give a rat's ass about anyone but myself. And God. And possibly unborn babies.
I don't care because he loves me enough to send his only son to die on a cross and he is not directly forcing me to own slaves.
So then when someone decides you owe him, and makes you his slave, you'll be okay with it right? Because God says it's okay, right?
"I would never own slaves, I think it is morally wrong and despicable."
- We can thank secular education for that, can't we?
