I would never want my nation in the hands of a man or woman that believed that he/she was the most powerful creature that exists in the universe. Anyone with any type of belief in a higher power will tend to think eternally when making decisions, not just in the present. What would you rather have running the country? Someone that feels that they will have to answer to God for their actions? or someone that thinks that as long the people are happy his action are justified? A professed atheist would never get my vote, regardless of where they stood on the issues. That is just being honest.

HONESTLY, I would not want EITHER someone who thought they were the most powerful creature in the universe OR were in telepathic communication with the most powerful person in the universe. I think you are spreading false alternatives because you want to deceive others, and you are a 10 zillion miles away from being honest.
The problem is, no one feels they have to answer to god for their actions. Most Christians I knew (myself included, when I was one) believed that they could do whatever they wanted, ask for God's forgiveness, and never speak of it again, here or in heaven.
So who do you think would have a bigger problem with slaughtering half a billion people, someone who believes they'll still go to heaven because they prayed for forgiveness, their physical body and life be damned, or someone who believes the present is all that matters?
I would never want some crazed christian nut, who longs for the end of the world, in charge of the biggest stockpile of nuclear armaments in the world....
Oh...Shit...Wait a minute...
I would never want my nation in the hands of a man or woman who believes that he or she knows the will of god. Anyone with any type of belief in a higher power will tend to think only of what their god wants and not what is good for the country or the people. Who would you rather have running the country? Someone who feels that they speak for god, or someone who understands that he or she is there to do what's best for the people regardless of his or her personal beliefs? A professed fundamentalist would never get my vote, regardless of where she stands on the issues. That is just being honest.
How is it that morally repugnant people like you even get to vote? It was mentioned before, but seriously, how can you claim moral superiority if you can do ANYTHING you want, so long as you ask for forgiveness from your imaginary friend before you die?
I could care less about the religion (or lack thereof) of a President. I care more about honesty, intelligence, morality, compassion, and knowledge. In short, all the things our current fundie Presidunce, who claims to be the most religious ever, lacks.
It's not the fact that a fundy thinks he can do whatever he wants and all he has to do is ask forgivenss of it, this shows that he knows what he did was wrong. What bothers me, is that most fundies think that the evil they do is actually OK, and that they have no need to repent of it, because it's what their god wants. Their view isn't "I killed a homosexual, and since murder is wrong, I need to ask forgiveness", their view is "I killed a homosexual, because god told me to, so he's proud of me, so I'm now going to go do it again." That's a frightening thing to think about.
". Anyone with any type of belief in a higher power will tend to think eternally when making decisions, not just in the present."
Unless you think the rapture will happen any minute now.
Or were you thinking of a thousand year Reich?
"I would never want my nation in the hands of a man or woman that believed that he/she was the most powerful creature that exists in the universe."
Bet you voted Bush in twice though, didn't ya?
"Anyone with any type of belief in a higher power will tend to think eternally when making decisions, not just in the present."
Yeah, right. It's naive thinking like that that allows people like Bush into office.
"What would you rather have running the country? Someone that feels that they will have to answer to God for their actions? or someone that thinks that as long the people are happy his action are justified?"
The second one. The first one is likely to believe the voices that s/he hears telling them to attack some other country are from Gawd.
"A professed atheist would never get my vote, regardless of where they stood on the issues. That is just being honest."
It must truly be nice to be able to profess faith and cruise through life because the ones making the decisions believe the same bullshit you do, therefor you must know what you're talking about irregardless of whether or not you actually do.
No wonder so many conmen and charlatans get into the whole religion act...
"What would you rather have running the country? Someone that feels that they will have to answer to God for their actions but will be forgiven for anything they do and will be allowed into heaven so long as they say sorry and don't call the Holy Spirit a puss infested cunt ? or someone that thinks that as long the people are happy his action are justified?"
Sorry, I just added in what you left out.
In my experience, atheists are more inclined to consult with other people when they need help, rather than pray and think they're getting a high-five from God when they hear a "voice" that agrees with them.
Someone that feels that they will have to answer to God for their actions?
This is Dubya's way of running the country, and look where we are now.
If you look at the things christian fundamentalists write you see the conrrary.
These people don´t care for things like environmental or conservation of natural resources issues because they believe that god will save them if they have exhausted all resources or wasted the environment.
In contrst to this an atheist would know that we only have one planet for which we have to care.
I wouldn't vote for someone who believes in the Rapture, because they tend to adopt a "What does it matter? We'll all be gone in like, five years" attitude.
Atheists, on the other hand, seem more concerned with the consequences than that...
Neither. I want a rationalist who knows that the best he/she can do as president is whatever is best for the country, without worrying about superstitions.
Also, define 'powerful' humans are not gods. We can't re-arrange the universe to our will. Stars are orders of magnitude more powerful than anything we've ever done, and so really, I don't know where you get this idea that being submissive to someone who doesn't exist automatically makes you a better person. It's totally illogical.
So you refuse to vote for an athiest because 'they think their the most powerful creature in the universe", which is utter BS, plenty of humans could kick my ass and god knows what the aliens could do to me. But you'd rather vote for a jackass who can justify ANYTHING he does to dipshits like you by claiming the most powerful being in the universe agrees with him.
What would you rather have running the country? Someone that feels that they will have to answer to God for their actions? or someone that thinks that as long the people are happy his action are justified?
Typical fundie black and white, binary thinking. The question of who I would prefer to run my country is not an either-or question. I will say that, if the President was called upon to make a decision in a crisis situation, the very last thing I would want him to have on his mind would be his relationship with his deity. I would much rather the President was focusing his attention completely on the crisis at hand.
A professed atheist would never get my vote, regardless of where they stood on the issues. That is just being honest.
Suppose this hypothetical professed atheist was anti-abortion and favored prayer in schools?
Everyone knows Goku/Kakarot is the most powerful creature that exists in the universe. And what's wrong with happy people? Or are you and your ilk just that morbidly depressed? -
wrong. by the end of his series goku had enough power to destroy a planet or 5.
by the end of sailor moon (manga) usagi had the power to destroy the universe
Confused?
