Quote# 4998

Actually back when I was an atheist I found the main selling point a freedom to do exactly as I pleased. I actually think this is a far larger selling point, but I have only ever seen a few atheists be willing to admit this.

Well, that's not surprising. The anarchy offer isn't available in all areas. Myself, I was hooked by the free texting and long distance.

Selling point? There's no entry fee or dues, no tithing. There are no recruiters. You were never an atheist, rather, you were searching for something official to belong to. Misery loves company.

I think most who become atheists cite disbelief in god as a primary motivator. The religious can also do exactly as they please, too, by the way.

Nah, it was the cheap monthly contract that cinched it for me.

...Who denies that?

I love that freedom.

But even so, I wouldn't say it's a 'main selling point'. Atheism isn't a recruitment agency (coughunlikeyoucoughcough) and most atheists are so simply because they don't believe in any gods. It's not a religion but rather the lack of one.

Door-to-door atheist: "And not only will renouncing belief in deities give you the freedom to do whatever you want to whomever you want at any time, we'll also throw in this toaster, a Snuggee and a handy reading light that folds up into your pocket! You'll want it every time you find yourself reaching for Charles Darwin at 3 a.m. after an orgy of drug abuse, gay sex and torturing Christians! Now, what else is it going to take for me to get you into atheism today, sir?"

You were never an Atheist, You were an asshole who believed in God. You probably did some of these things, then felt guilty, then found God and an excuse to do these things anyway (cause you're special now)

Oh, there's atheist assholes for sure, but this Evangelist shit puts new meaning to the title of asshole.

You have no relationship with a God. God's are a concept.

Why yes, I am quite happy to not be forced to worship some sky fairy and give up half my life to idiocy, thanks for noticing.

That's because most atheists aren't atheist for that reason.

Actually it's not the biggest selling point. Not being yoked to a religion, church or it's dogma is the only advantage.

Atheists are still bound by the laws of society and the perimeters of family, career and most of all the consequences of actions.

Oh, you were never an Atheist or you'd know that. This is a claim only made by believers.

It was the cash that did it for me. The cash, and the hookers. The cash, the hookers and the drugs.

I find the main selling point of religion to be telling other people how to live.
