/Tough and too bad for you. I seem to recall a lot of scalpings that went on./
Yes, by WHITES. Funny how most textbooks ignore that little detail.
/Just who were the real savages,/
Columbus and his men. The Taino people welcomed them, gave them food, and were perfectly hospitable, until the ungrateful explorers started stealing from them and enslaving them.
/and who stood around for years not developing the country?/
Dude, if the Native Americans hadn't "developed the country," then your precious explorers wouldn't have survived. Who do you think it was who helped the Pilgrims? Who do you think it was who helped the Jamestown settlers (you could argue that John Smith was essential to their survival, but still)? Face it, without the Native Americans and their help, white settlers would have perished.
Besides, many Native American societies DID have developed cities. The Mayans already had a complex mathematical system and vastly populated cities, as did the Aztecs. Tenochtitlan rivaled the cities of Europe, with its large population and thriving economy.
The Native Americans pretty much had things going well. Then Europeans came and messed it all up.
/COLUMBUS ROCKS!/
No, Columbus was a murderer. He even admitted it in his DIARY, for heaven's sake.
/Celeberate this holiday more vigorously./
Uh, dude, aside from the parade, virtually nobody celebrates this holiday "vigorously." They're just happy that they have a day off from school or work.
/Well since "your people" failed to defend your precious country, you have no say./
You know, this argument can be made for every country in the world that has fallen under conquest. Where do your ancestors hail from? I bet they were probably told that same line by their conquerors, too. And how, pray tell, could the Native Americans defend themselves from smallpox, an epidemic that they and the Europeans had not an inkling about? Yes, the Europeans had their shiny weapons, but it was disease that was the main contributor to the Native Americans' downfall.
/We honor him because it sparked a match that created this great country./
Columbus did not create anything. The Vikings discovered North America long before he had. And what most people tend to forget is that he and his crew landed in the Caribbean, which is not considered part of the United States.
/If you don't like it, you can get out./
How charitable of you. How fitting that the conquistadors basically said the same thing to the natives, "You must die for our God! If you don't like it, you can get out."
/You're a moron... I wish Columbus would have discovered you/
So you do acknowledge that Columbus was a murderer? And yet you still insist on honoring him. How pathetic.
