A previously undocumented disease, untreatable by today's medical practices, is spreading like wildfire among the nation's gay population. With AIDS, the disease spread to heterosexuals through married men who were cheating on their wives and injected drug use. Will this disease cross over to heterosexuals as easily, or will the precautions taken to reduce the spread of AIDS slow the progress of this disease?

It seems that only the chaste and monogamous are safe. Parents, warn your children of the dangers of sex outside the safety of marriage. Pastors, warn your congregations.

We're on the cusp of another epidemic, another microscopic killer slaughtering the innocent because of the sins of Homosexuals. Let's nip this one in the bud.

Yeah, it sounds like some retard make up crap. I'll bet that's why it smells familiar, too.

Started with heterosexuals, Alex, just spread more easily in the gay and IV drug-using populations. Plus, you left out bisexuals, hemophiliacs, and women cheating on their husbands.

If that disease is even real, safe-sex practices will certainly help limit its spread.

Yup, no one's denying that, though safe-sex practices almost entirely eliminate the risks. And, monogamy only works if both partners are absolutely monogamous... absolutely, all the time. Better use protection anyway, Alex.

No, the danger isn't sex outside of marriage, it's unprotected sex with persons who may have been in contact with HIV/AIDS, married or not.

I'll need a source for that one two. In the meantime, I did some research on HIV myself. Did you know that that young teen girls are more likely to get HIV than boys or grown women?

For a variety of reasons cultural, political and economic some young people are more vulnerable to infection than others. For example, girls are at higher risk in some parts of the world. This is partly because girls are more likely to be pressured into having sex and less likely to be able to control with whom, when and how they have sex. Also, social attitudes to sex and sex education may make it more difficult for girls to get the information they need to protect themselves from the virus.

Other young people are likely to be infected with HIV because they inject illegal drugs (sharing unsterilized needles is a common route for infection). Or they may be more at risk because they are poor or homeless, which makes them more vulnerable to exploitation and abuse, for example by being forced to have sex for money. Children orphaned by AIDS are themselves particularly vulnerable to infection because they often have no one to care for or protect them, or any means of earning a living.

So you are saying that homosexuality IS genetic, then?

HIV can now be controlled, if not treated. Very few contract AIDS nowadays, and almost no-one (who has access to medicine) has died of it, in years.

With AIDS, the disease spread like wildfire because gay people were forced to hide their orientation and fake a heterosexual life. The only outlet they had was to sneak off to have short encounters with other in-the-closet gays. If they had been able to live openly, to marry people of the same gender, we might never have had the AIDS epidemic. It seems that only open-minded and tolerant societies are more or less safe.

And this time, we're talking about a pandemic that can affect anyone, regardless of lifestyle, alternative or not; at least those of the former ilk can protect themselves from HIV/AIDS. One word: Condoms. And MRSA isn't an STD, neither.
