Not necessarily lying. I know a girl who has a BS in biochem and doesn't believe in evolution. Honestly, you can be very intelligent and still believe in something as silly as creationism simply because that's how you were raised.

I gots the sustificates back by return of post - so now I'm fully qualfied and can practice molecular biology and biochemistry in any state that does not have a vowel in its name.

There's an easy way to solve this. Ask her a question about molecular biology and see if she comes close to getting the answer right. If she comes back with some copy pasta from wikipedia she's a christian. If she comes back with a detailed answer, she's a biologist, albeit a bad one.

The proof of evolution on a biochemical level is kind of fraught because they are looking so closely at the minutae of detail that they don't see the simplicity of the situation inherant in evolution.

Its hard to keep a sceptical mind when you look at the minutae of life since it 'does' look designed. However this is ignoring evidence on that scale such as genetic redundancy.
