(Talking about why a relative is voting for Obama-Irony ahoy!)
Find out what it was that sucked him over to the dark side. A lot of times, it's the change and hope.
Ask him what he expects to change if Obama is elected and then patiently and kindly dismantle all of it.
It's seriously like a cult. I've talked to some of them with whom you can't get through with a crowbar.

does anybody else want Obama to win JUST to see how butt-hurt Rapture Ready gets when he is announced President? I swear, if he gets elected, it'll be a busy month here on fstdt for sure.
of course, if McCain wins then we'll be filled with gloating and smug Rapture Ready quotes. another reason why i want Obama to win.
Damn it, Rapture Ready, you keep breaking my irony and stupid meters. Don't you know how expensive they are?
(Not fundie, just hilariously dumb, but still worth the lulz.)
@aaa - I have a feeling the drama on the internet will be epic, no matter who wins. I fully plan on bringing popcorn to work.
That entire thread is priceless I just love this, how out of touch with reality can they get?
"George Bush in the last 7 years has killed a vicious dictator, dealt a critical blow to the Taliban and KEPT US SAFE AT HOME.
I, for one, am very grateful to him for accomplishing these things while under constant character assassination from liberal ingrates and terrorist sympathizers.
In fact, I sent Bush a letter expressing my admiration for handling it all so well. "
I seriously can't wait to see the mass hysteria on RR when Obama wins. The first couple weeks after the election will pretty much fill our monthly quota for ridiculous Raptard quotes, and then some. And then it'll all die down, and they'll move onto a new "anti-christ" to panic over.
The last line, I made it to the last line before my IM exploded. Now, what is wrong with change and hope? A vote for McCain is a vote for tyranny. A vote for Obama is a vote for hope. I can't wait until Obama wins, either, we'll be busy here with all those losers at rapturd ready losing their last four collective brain cells.

So far, everyone who has tried this has simply fallen back on:
1) Ayers
2) Wright
3) ACORN
4) OMG SOCIALISM
5) Muslim!
6) Terrorist!
7) Joe the Plumber!
If this is reasoned, intellectual discourse, it's clearly above my ability to properly appreciate.
We already know there won't be any change under McCain. The national debt, adjusted to 2000 dollars, was level at about $2 trillion since the end of WW2. Then starting with Reagan, it went from $2 trillion to $10.5 trillion. Only $0.5 trillion was under Clinton. The other $8 trillion was under Reagan and the two Bushes. Adjusted for inflation, over 94% of the increase in the national debt has occurred under Republican presidents. With 25 years of experience since the Reagan tax cuts, there's no longer any question of this not being a deliberate Republican policy to buy votes with "tax cuts" that are actually just loans to be paid for by our children. It's like giving you a tax cut and then secretly charging the cut to your credit card. We're paying over $350 billion a year in interest just on the debt run up by Reagan and the two Bushes. To put that in perspective, the entire amount of personal income tax paid by everyone in America is about $1,100 billion. So almost 1/3 of every dollar we pay in personal income tax goes to pay interest on the debt run up by the tax cuts the Republicans "gave" us with our own money.
@RI:
You haven't pushed them far enough to reveal their real reason: the fact that he's black.
Before this election, I would have laughed at such a claim as PC bullshit, but after talking extensively with a number of Republicans, I've come to realize that racism is just as prevalent as it was a hundred years ago. The only difference is that modern racists don't have the balls to admit it in public. "Muslim" and "terrorist" are baseless and easily debunked and most of them seem to know it, but they hide behind the accusations because it's more "acceptable" to discriminate against those groups than against blacks.

I want to see their little heads implode.
I'd love to critique Dodo82801's "patient and kind" dismantling argument.
aaa , that of course would be the icing on the cake. I'm also expecting some material from Faux n00z.
Find out what it was that sucked him over to the dark side. A lot of times, it's the change and hope.
Because change and hope are tools of the Devil.
Well, who wouldn't want to fling bolts of red lightning from their fingertips?
Or strangle people with mere gesture.
Or crush their balls.
Honestly, I am sorry, but there is nothing wrong with supporting McCain. People have their own political ideals based on their experiences in the world. Why do I keep seeing non religion related politic posts on this site?

In this case, at least, it's because of the irony: somebody on Rapture Ready - a site that bans people for even mild dissent, while feeding regular posters a steady diet of bovine eschatology - is accusing Obama supporters of acting like members of a cult.
This isn't even really about Obama v. McCain.
The RR crowd, and many at the fundie end of the spectrum are continually degrading people who even look Democrat. They use terms like Obamatons, Obamatize. They slander & libel BO by calling him "muslim" and "terrorist" (especially because of his middle name).
What's with these people: the visceral hatred is worrying: I do see a good chance of BO being assassinated before the election, and a very good chance of it happening afterwards if he's elected.
Never have I seen such bigotry and violence focussed on one politician in hte western world, Even Margaret Thatcher (who is still hated in some parts of the UK) was never a focus of homicidal hatred!
What "sucked" him to the "dark side" was that he saw through the lies and bullshit being generated by the likes of RR. He's had 7 years of tolerating this crap, and decided to go with the ones who can pull us out of the hell that you love so much.
You only want power to run the world YOUR way at the expense of the other 99.9% of the population of the USA who couldn't give a shit if you went out of existance now.
It is Rupture Ready that is the cult, and perhaps the most satanic attitude of all.
I would tell you to go to hell, but it appears you live there already.
"Honestly, I am sorry, but there is nothing wrong with supporting McCain. People have their own political ideals based on their experiences in the world. Why do I keep seeing non religion related politic posts on this site? "
It ended up here because Rupture Ready decided to make an issue out of it.
Vote for who you like, but for the right reasons and not party dogma. US politics are the laughing stock of the civilised world by thier infantile campaigning, and the fact that almost 60% of thier careers is spent on preserving thier seats instead of running a country.
If you haven't spent some time in a Fundy church, you cannot possibly understand how closed, nailed down and bolted if not downright welded shut with the Holy Acetylene Torch of God some minds can be.
Oh, and I guess Frodo82801 owes a fair number of folks a new Irony Meter (mine was thankfully off). That was quite a whopper.
What will change if Obama is (was) elected? You will be less of a laughing stock in the rest of the world. You will stop sucking up to the banks, and thereby stoping your economy from ending up in free-fall, taking the rest of the world with you. (Sorry, the election was too late, you DID draw the whole world with you into free-fall, thanks to Dubbya Shrub.)
Confused?
