Message: animals communicate today, even with people. so where is your proof that animals don't talk? your opinion and assumptions means nothing to me without proof, so before you comment on my question give me proof, otherwise, keep your opinions and assumptions to yourself.

Someone obviously doesn't know who the burden of proof lies on... and communication =/= talking with language.

Both snakes and donkeys lack the necessary anatomical apparatus for human speech. Something the backward Bronze Age goat herders who wrote the Bible wouldn't have known about.
Hence, the fairy tale designation.

But he's right! I got proof that donkeys can talk, check it out!

They could talk a little, but it was always hard to understand them.

How about the fact that animals don't talk? Go ahead, chat all you like. It's never gonna happen.

The level of intellectual discourse at Yahoo! Answers never ceases to amaze me. They should call it Yahoo! University.

I have to say that I do think animals comunicate with us all the time1 but we have lost our animalistic ability to understand due to evolution. I quite often seem to know what my cat wants.

Animals have neve spoken to humans or each other though, not in the way this one menas it. Language is a purely human construction, animals communicate primarily in terms of emotion.

Do animals communicate? Of course. Do animals talk? Only in cartoons. I can generally understand what my dog wants by the way she barks. But she doesn't say "Hey, Matt, get me some damn food, will ya? I'm starving here!" (I understand that there are some birds who can "talk", however, this does not mean they know how to communicate in human language."

Animals do communicate. But not verbally. To pretend that animals speak human languages with understanding is absurd.

They make noises, like meowing and such, we talk. For me to understand what the hell my cat needs, I need the signs as to what she wants. Whether it's to get up on a high perch she cannot reach or if she wants food, and she's a smart cat and will give me those hints.
