Some patrons cheered his arrival while others looked on with curiosity and surprise. One woman yelled, “Socialist, Socialist, Socialist — get out of here.” Obama was across the room at the time and did not appear to hear Diane Fanning, 54, who was among several patrons who had just come by after services at the local Presbyterian church. She said she was annoyed that the Illinois senator had stopped in at the restaurant that she regularly visits.

Again with calling him a socialist!
Why do we have to see this everywhere? Obama is not a socialist. Many parts of socialism aren't bad things. "Socialist" isn't necessarily an insult. There is no need to fear Obama just because he's at least a little bit farther towards the left end of the political spectrum compared to McCain. It's a reason to vote for him.
Socialist? Next thing you know he will be calling for the nationalization of the banks, or giving loans to the auto industry. Luckily that could never happen in America. Much like universal health care. Not a fundie here--just someone who doesn't know what a socialist is and is annoyed she has to share her restaurant.

I mean how dare her come into my diner. Can't he read the sign that says he needs to sit at the far end of the counter and drink from only certain fountains?
"Why do we have to see this everywhere? Obama is not a socialist."
Well to be fair he's half socialist. His mother was white and his father was socialist. At least if we play along with this little 'hide the racism' word game anyway.
"Nigger, nigger, nigger -- get out of here!" That's what Diane Fanning really wanted to scream at Senator Obama.
Fanning wouldn't be able to define and recognize socialism if it bit her in the ass.
Helping poor people get affordable health care is BAD.
Nationalizing banks and paying wall street employee bonuses with taxpayer money is GOOD.
I'm not sure why, but it seems to all boil down to not wanting to help poor people. And no, Diane, giving 10% of your income to your local "six flags over Jesus mega-church" so it can buy better lights for the Christmas pageants and build another coffee bar does not count as "helping the poor."
Oh, you poor, oppressed, bitch. Talk about segregation. Some negro is eating in MY restaurant. He should be hung on the gallows. Gather the townsfolk with their Coleman lanterns and pitchforks, and lets Git-R-Done. STFU, bitch.
These people don't know what socialist means. I bet they have no problem using social services like police, libraries, fire departments, state funded roads, military protection, and many other socialist institutions. They use "socialist" in the same way they use "liberal". It just a catch-all for things they consider bad, they really have very little understanding of what it actually means.
Gave it a "3" because I still remember when GWB decided to campaign at the Daytona 500. Secret Service was all over, and we couldn't bring in all the beer and sodas we needed, and our bags were searched. Took forever to get to our seats, too. It was everything I could do not to throw one of my two beer cans at him when he said a long-ass prayer before the customary "Gentlemen, start your engines." I can easily see a visit from Obama being just as much of an assache for patrons of this restaurant.
Diane you have disgraced yourself, your parents, your church, your town, and your state with your rudeness and impolite behavior. I will wager your family raised you better than that.
@werewolf: I agree, so many people throw the word around like an insult *cough* Fox News *cough* Bill O'Reilly without knowing what it means. First of all, socialism is NOT the same as communism. Second of all, socialism has different meanings throughout the world. I once listened to a socialist speaker from Lebanon and she said that in her country, the word "socialist" has very different connotations than it does here in the United States.
Besides, aren't certain European countries that have some mode of socialism - such as Scandinavia - doing fairly well?

We're doing perfectly well, thank you.
And our favourite form of entertainment at the moment is in fact the American election, and the fact that welfare seems to be a horribly bad thing over there. =D
This isn't fundie.
Argue its level of intelligence, political sophistication etc., but without religious references, it isn't fundie.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
