Atheists are pretty stupid?

Atheists think they're superior to non-atheists (mostly) because they think they have a superior ability to use logic. Well thing is that you only see things for what they are, a primitive way of realizing conciseness.

Science is like religion in a way too, thinking up theories that make no sense at first and setting out to prove them.

"Science is like religion in a way too, thinking up theories that make no sense at first and setting out to prove them."

No.

Uummm, OK.

"Atheists think they're superior to non-atheists (mostly) because they think they have a superior ability to use logic."

No, having a superior ability to use logic makes one atheist.

Conciseness?

Proving religion? That I would like to see. It would truly be a miracle!

The scientific method involves the unbiased observation of the natural world around us. Unbiased means that a scientist does not try to prove something he think up out of thin air (intelligent design supporters do that). A scientist will catalogue his observations, compare them with the observations of others in the same field and after enough evidence has been gathered, a unifying theory is formulated that can best explain this evidence. See the difference?

"Science is like religion in a way too, thinking up theories that make no sense at first and setting out to prove them."

It's the other way around.

They get evidence, then make a teory.

Do we have to spell it out to you?

Being an atheist does not make me superior to anyone. Just because someone has religious beliefs doesn't mean that they are not smart. However, I have a difficult time not getting angry when those I'm talking to have access to a dictionary and choose not to use it.

Seeing things for what they are as opposed to what. Oh that's right, ignoring reality. Fundies are good at that.

Science is like religion in a way too, thinking up theories that make no sense at first and setting out to prove them.

So close.

No.
The scientific Methods includes taking observations and forming theories around them.

Having preconceived models first and then trying to fit evidence into them is the way of shoddy science and of people who try to prove bible to be literal true

"a primitive way of realizing conciseness."

Let me recommend the most primitive (and effective) way of realizing conciseness: shut up. Then you'll always be concise, and it also saves you from looking like a complete idiot.

Seeing things for what they are is primitive? Does that mean seeing things for what they aren't is better? Let's see:

What am I typing on right now?

Seeing things for what they are: A keyboard.

Seeing things for what they aren't: It's not a dog, cat, mouse, pen, paper, chair, monitor, human, finger, container, ect.

"Atheists are pretty stupid?" Are you asking? Because if so, then the answer is no.

"Atheists think they're superior to non-atheists (mostly)" No, not really.

"they think they have a superior ability to use logic" We do.

"Well thing is that you only see things for what they are" You mean, what's real? As in reality?

"Science is like religion in a way too" Um...no.

"thinking up theories that make no sense at first and setting out to prove them" That's pretty close. However, they don't 'think up theories', they postulate theories based on observable reality. Then they set out to find evidence and test it. This is the way science works. Unlike religion, which is generally based on myths and fairy tale books that have no objective evidence to support them. So, to go back to your original question, 'Atheists are pretty stupid?', the answer is, again, no.

Yes, how dare a lowly atheist such as myself feel superior to you.

I mean, given this post, it seems so absurd that I'd be arrogant, doesn't it?

"Atheists are pretty stupid?"

Yes, I question that too.

"Atheists think they're superior to non-atheists (mostly) because they think they have a superior ability to use logic."

I'd have to agree that many times that is true.

"Well thing is that you only see things for what they are, a primitive way of realizing conciseness."

You fail to see your lousy sentence construction and spelling for what they are.

So, you contend that seeing things the way they aren't is less primitive? Seeing things for what they are is a basic if one is going to have any understanding of the world.

"Science is like religion in a way too, thinking up theories that make no sense at first and setting out to prove them."

Science is not a religion, it is a method, the best method, of understanding everything which is real. That some theories make no sense to you is irrelevant.

"Atheists think they're superior to non-atheists (mostly) because they think they have a superior ability to use logic. Well thing is that you only see things for what they are, a primitive way of realizing conciseness."

Uh, ok. Maybe. I guess. I don't really know since I can't parse whatever the hell that's supposed to be.

"Science is like religion in a way too, thinking up theories that make no sense at first and setting out to prove them."

You seem to have confused religion with science. Science doesn't come up with an answer and then find facts to support it. It finds facts and then forms a theory that incorporates them. All of them, not just the ones that they like.

11/2/2008 1:18:36 AM

Well thing is that you only see things for what they are

So... atheists are grounded in reality?

Atheists are pretty stupid?

Are you asking this or saying this?

Atheists think they're superior to non-atheists (mostly) because they think they have a superior ability to use logic.

No, I don't, and nor do my atheist friends. You're the ones who believe you're superior.

Well thing is that you only see things for what they are, a primitive way of realizing conciseness.

Okay, let's examine this using an example.

I see Lord of the Rings as a story written by J. R. R. Tolkein. That is the truth.

One can see Lord of the Rings as having a higher meaning and which can give ultimate knowledge of the future. This is not true.

I see a flower as an organism. This is true.

One can see a flower as dirt that rearranged itself to make us feel better. This is not true.

One can only see a thing for what it is. Nothing can be seen for what it is not without those who are doing the seeing being stupid.

You say we see things for what they are. That means you, controversially, see things for what they are not. Who, in this case, is more intelligent?

Science is like religion in a way too, thinking up theories that make no sense at first and setting out to prove them.

The second part of your sentence disproves the notion that science can be a religion. Religions are fundamentally faith-based; therefore, proving it means it can no longer be a religion.

Yahoo! should get rid of it's answers section. It's a breeding-ground for fundies.

That's the exact opposite of the way science works, dipshit.

So you admit some asshole made up your religion right on the spot without trying to make sense of it?
