I'm trying to figure out what possible difference there could be between a man and a woman interpreting for the deaf... is she using her vagina as a puppet so they can read her "lips"? (rimshot!)

Are all the deaf people men? If so, of course not, she may tempt them into running up and raping her and then of course it wouldn't be the men's fault, because women should be barefoot, pregnant in the kitchen :P

What the hell is a "weekly bible study devo thing?" Remember Devo from the 1980's with Whip It, Whip It Good?

Kinky Devo Bible study at the Paynes - that made my whole week.

I found it profoundly disturbing that the general consensus in that thread was that a woman interpreting for the deaf could cause a person to stumble, therefore they should either find a male to do the signing or segregate the deaf members in another room where hearing members would not have to be distracted by the female interpreter. How sad. Just goes to show you that discrimination in many churches runs deep.

Hm, according to fundamentalist beliefs women aren´t allowed to speak in church. But a female interpreter for the deaf doesn´t speak. She is just doing certain things with herb hands :D

"bible study devo thing"

The mind boggles at Devo organising Bible studies.

Damn, beaten. Or rather whipped.

OF COURSE NOT! She might "interpert" things in a feminist way! The best thing for this female "interperter" of yours to do is get pregnant and chain herself to a large kitchen appliance. Whew, I'm glad I caught you in time! Dodged the bullet on that one!

Why are you doing bible studies on Devo? They weren't that good of a band. Anyway, this is a pickle. On the one hand, if I thought religious services were good, then I'd say it was stupid to say that you couldn't have a female interpreter for the deaf. On the other hand, the deaf don't need to hear that load of crap anyway.

Well, by using sign language, she is obeying Paul's injunction to "be silent in church"...

Oh, for God's sake, is there ANYTHING that women can do aside from staying barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen? Does every single thing that a woman does have to be so painstakingly analyzed and debated over?

@Headache: well, that would hardly be a stretch, considering that (if memory serves me right) OT rules specifically forbid people with "a defect in their sight" to enter the temple...

Get a hobby, George3. It's not the interpreter's fault if you can't stop staring at her ass.

Oh well, if you're so special for having a penis, why don't you learn sign language and become an interpreter? Are you too much of a special snowflake to be a good Christian and actually help people? Oh, who am I kidding. You just want to sit in judgment of everyone else.
