Go ahead and laugh, but if you believe that 'role play' does not affect or influence our children, you are sticking your head in the sand. I can control what my own child does at home, but I can't watch them 24/7 - what's to stop her from going to a friends house and 'acting out' their 'secret spells'? And, since it is secret, the parents need never know, right? Plant a seed, nurture it, and it will grow. Flower or weed, it matters not - it will still grow. What kind of seeds are we planting?

Me and some friends played D&D last night; it was awesome. There were magic missiles flying through the air and for a few moments a portal opened up over my kitchen table!

I was playing "Magic the Gathering" the other day and it was cool. Ninjas running over grass fields and forests versus water monsters and forest ents. The problems started when my friend summoned ent sage, so they joined forces and tried to destroy us, with the help of trolls. Thank God me and my friend had magical poker and flyswatter, respectivelly, else I would have to call exterminator... Nah, I'm not living in Harry P.'s world.

Hey, I read a few passages from the Necronomicon last night, and it opened a portal that sucked my Oldsmobile into 13th Century England! Pretty cool, huh?

I hope there's a weedkiller strong enough for the crap that could grow from the seeds you are planting.

My best friend is a Christian. For a long time too. Even before he got into RPGs, his passion was wargaming, making & painting the figures, models etc. He's been playing RPGs since the late 70s. He has a comprehensive collection, and his knowledge of such is encyclopaedic.

Playing such has affected his beliefs not one jot. He'd laugh at your claims.

Your call, MrsMom.

Yes, pretending to cast spells is a slippery slope on the path to casting real spells. That kid who plays a 17th level wizard is going to cast Meteor Swarm in the middle of Times Square! Gods help us all!

What kind of seeds am I planting? Seeds of freedom, individuality, imagination and critical thinking. You, MrsMom, would call them seeds of rebellion and sin. At the latter I laugh, and with the former I take great pride.

Go on, call me the Devil. It makes me smile.

So, you want to stifle the growth and blossoming of creativity, individuality, good old-fashioned critical thinking, and fun times. Way to fail.
