Um, no. People started acting like jerks to people from different countries, and so someone had to invent a word for it.

It shocks me that some people can be admittedly racist.

I have a minor case of arachnophobia and I'm white. Does that mean I'm a self-hating white guy?

"Racism" was coined by Lev "Trotsky " Bronstein for exactly this purpose.

As for the phobias, he's talking about "xenophobia", "islamophobia" etc. (not actual phobias), which are used to imply that the opponent is mentally unstable, which is a typical anti-racist tactic.

@Bigot - The term "racism" goes back a few centuries and seems to originate from France. It's the belief that some "races" are superior or inferior to others; or the belief that races are real and determine a person's innate abilities, capacities and/or personality and quality of character.

The term can be and has been applied to many non-white people many times, so claiming it's an anti-white conspiracy (why would a bunch of white people plot to destroy their own social group anyway?) is nonsensical. Also, since "phobia" means "fear" it makes sense in a lot of ways to refer to hatred (particularly irrational hatred) of foreigners or Muslims as "xenophobia" and "Islamophobia", etc. since hatred often forms out of fear of something. At the root of people who dislike Muslims and foreigners and think they need to be treated differently you usually find people who feel that way often fear Muslims or foreigners in some way and suspect them of having some dastardly plan or ability.
