And what if it had been a Jewish group? Or a Muslim group? Would it still be OK to attack her like that?

That is fucking hilarious.
You people south of us sure have funny elections. What the fuck ever happened to issues? Your economy is heading for the shitter and all Dole and her followers can think of is her opponent is an atheist and favors taking "In God We Trust" off the money?!
That is some prime comedy right there.

Even "gay money" is now respectable. You can be a Republican and get support from Log Cabin Republicans.

Yeah, issues go out the window and people get hysterical when an atheist tries to get involved in politics.
Of all the commentary I've heard on this issue, no one has ever brought up why it is such a problem that the woman may be an atheist. Why is it such a problem if an atheist wants to get involved in politics?!

I think the interesting part of this is not that it tries to influence votes based upon an opponent being an atheist, but that it tries that against a person who is obviously no such thing, while trying to a strongly imply she is associated with atheists, to the point of impersonating her voice saying something there is no record of her ever saying. The irony is someone attacking another person's supposed lack of christian values by lying to people excessively enough to overcome the very lax standards of slander laws in political ads.

She's not even an atheist, she is a liberal Christian.
Apparently having anything in common with atheists is bad enough to get you branded as evil.

If I were running for office and someone called me 'godless,' I'd say 'Thank you for the compliment. :)
PS, G Zimmer, I think the religious conservatives have messed too much up in this country as it is. If we can't get more atheists and agnostics into office, I'll settle for the liberal religions like UCC, Reform Judaism, Theravada Buddhism, UU, Paganism, etc....

I voted for Kay Hagan; Ms. Dole can kiss my atheist ass.
