Christian parents; how much control do you have over your childs tv/music habits?
I let my boy (being a man) watch and listen to what he likes (within reason), he's a good boy, he likes christian rock best, but obviously my girls get monitored a little closer, we usually do craft instead of TV and music, which is better.
I recently looked through Martin's CD colection and found some questionable material, I took the worst away (eminem and some other black music with f words in) but he is 15 and he should be prepared for the outside world after all. What do you do, and how do you deal with the topic of 'gay' or 'sexually explicit' material, such as chemical romance (sp?) and killers?

I thought Chemical Romance just did emo music? You're telling me they do gay anthems now?
I don't really know as I've not listened to them, but if they're going to do a punk mix of "I am what I am", I'll download that.
Oh no, not again. Jayden's loony mum is at it again?
Look love, go to the doctor and ask him to sterilise you, then go to an adoption agency and ask them to take your poor lad off you hands. Then promise never to breed again.
PLEASE.
Well, first off, there's really no such thing as 'gay' music (escept maybe disco, that's kind of a gray area). However, he should certainly be punished for his shitty taste. Buy some Clash, and a bit of Pink Floyd wouldn't hurt.
I hate jayden's mommy, and I'm STILL surprised she isn't dead yet. Anyway...
"I let my boy (being a man)" Now, technically, a boy is a man, but in normal parlance, there is a difference. So which is he, a boy or a man?
"eminem and some other black music" I've listened to Eminem before, even seen him on the album covers. And I had no fucking idea that he was black.
What a fucking bitch.

When my kid gets around to asking questions about homosexuality, I'll give him the straight dope: Fruits are regular people, just like you and me. The only difference is how they get down in the bedroom. As far as music goes, Tom can listen to what he pleases as long as it's appropriate for his age group (i.e. no gangster rape at 8 years old).
Based on my own teenage years I'd say that keeping a 15 year old from listening to what they want is a lost cause. If you don't let them have it you can bet that their friends do and they watch/listen at other houses.
Your daughters are going to hate you for treating them different because they have boobs. If they're at all normal they watch/listen to stuff with their brother when you aren't paying attention anyway.
Since your boy is a man at 15, that should also mean that your girls are women and therefore you have no right to censor the activities of any of your children. They are, after all, adults.
@Old Viking
Agreed. Troll.
Ya know, I knew someone's daughter that was controlled like this, she got physically sick at the thought of sex and ran from anyone that swore. She got off to life at 18, it was like watching a car hit a brick wall.

Disregard that Eminem is white.

My Chemical Romance and The Killers do suck out loud but I doubt they're music is gay anthems.
My Chemical Romance and The Killers are actually pretty tame compared to some of the other bands out there. I would be more worried about the Scissor Sisters and the Indigo Girls, mom. (And let's not forget ABBA and Queen while we're at it.)
Oh, and for the record, My Chemical Romance are my favorite band and I've not turned out TOO badly... by my parents standards. Your standards probably say I'm a evil baby-eating-lesbian-feminist. But seriously, babies taste good with a little bit of lemon and the right sauce...
I have yet to hear anything even remotely related to homosexuality from the Killers, unless you want to argue that the music style is similar to that played in gay bars. In fact, the only song that is even the slightest bit objectionable is "Mr. Brightside," in which a jealous lover is tortured by fantasies of his SO's indiscretions. That's ONE SONG.
MCR might have some bad music, but they are not gay or anit christian.
Sorry guys, I accidentaly linked to her pro and not the question. Sorry.

Oh, give me a break. Stop it with all this "he's a man" nonsense and how you need to "protect" your daughters' innocent minds more than than your son's. I don't know where the assumption that boys are inherently more sexually mature or knowledgeable came about, but let me tell you something. I went to an all-girls high school and there was *plenty* of swearing and obscene comments going around. Many girls in my grade swore worse than truck drivers and giggled over inappropriate remarks.
Most girls aren't these delicate, pure angels who cannot stomach dirty jokes or crude humor. They can be just as horny or crude as boys. In fact, a few of my friends visited an all-boys high school one day and the boys there were amazed at how their minds were apparently as dirty as theirs. My friends even told them to stop being so timid about making sexual jokes in front of them just because they were girls.
If you're going to guard your daughters' minds, then guard your son's, too. Don't make the stupid excuse, "Oh, but he's a boy, he can handle it." Trust me, girls can handle it, too, just like boys can.
"eminem and some other black music"
Oh yeah, Eminem is the new Elvis.
I thought we were past this shit as a society, but some people still appear to be seriously offended by and slightly afraid of the idea that individuals of other races can make music.
You don't turn gay from music, stupid. I liked Culture Club and George Michael when I was young, but I stayed heterosexual.
My dad didn't always like the music I liked (he thought it was a bit bland), but he let me listen to it anyway.
Confused?
