demagogue actually means someone who makes emotional appeals to the public's hatred, prejudice and fears. Like everyone else said already, we've already had constant demagogery for the past 8 years. I'd say that Cheney justifying torture by claiming it stopped potential attacks on this country is a hallmark example of demagogery. As H.L. Mencken said so sweetly: "a demagogue is someone who says things he knows not to be true to people he knows to be idiots."
