And traditional marriage, by the way, is marrying the landlord's daughter for the dowry. What we now call "marriage" is a pretty recent idea. (Forgive me, Jon Stewart said it better than I.)
So, if civil unions should be good enough for homosexuals, then why not make everyone have civil unions? Why allow straight people to be able to have the title of marriage at all, if "civil union" is sufficient? History has shown again and again that "separate but equal" does not work.

There have been attempts to give same-sex partners legal recognition since I was a senior in high school. Guess what? Fundies will also fight civil unions and domestic partnerships. But I think he knows that.

Moron. The people who get married at that young of an age are conservative Christians. Everyone else doesn't have a problem with cohabitating without getting married, because they aren't afraid of being struck down by lightning for having sex before eternally committing themselves to their first love.

I've noticed that any time a young person makes a descision that the conservative dislikes, they brush it off because "the part of the brain that regulates rational thinking isn't fully formed until 25". Yet at the same time, these same conservatives praise all the young people who volunteer for military service, and go die for their country, as if they knew what they were getting into when they raised their hands.
