[Re: If God created this world, why do people think that the world was here 4.5 Billion years ago?]
in the 40's and 50's it was thousands of years
the 60's and 70's it went to millions
80's and 90's it went to billions
and now in the 2000's i have heard them say trillions
they will say anything to get government funding
and the government enjoys anything but the Truth .

not from any actual scientist. the universe itself is only about 14 billion years old, get over yourself.
We say billions because we've measured decay of several long-lived radioactive isotopes. We say that the universe is about 14bn years old because as far as we are able to discern, there is a 14bn ly separation from one end of the universe to the next. It's completely possible that it's bigger, but there's no reason to assume that this is the case.
First of all, that's the way science works. Things get messed up sometimes. It doesn't mean the science is wrong, it just means we didn't have all the information to make a correct idea. Second, there's no reason to think that just because the world is several billion years old, that god had nothing to do with it, at least as far as christian theology is concerned. Most christians believe the teachings of the scientists, and understand the the biblical account of creation is allegorical and not historical.

THAT'S all you have to do to get funding?
I hypothesize that the world is a gajillion years old. Check please!

Seriously, how fucking stupid are you and your clan?
Your stats are wrong, but you miss the larger point as well. One of the great facets of science is that things change as better evidence is presented, unlike religions where evidence is ignored if it contradicts dogma.
There weren't a lot of serious (read non-religious) attempts to date the Earth until ~ 1850. Almost all of the attempts in the next 60 years or so came up with numbers in the tens to hundreds of millions . After the discovery of radioactivity around the turn of the century, the estimates have all been in the billions of years. So, the scientific consensus of the age of the Earth in the 50's was pretty much what it is today.
Actually, it started out as 6,000 because the Bible says so. Then we threw that away and started looking for a real answer, just like we did for the cause of lightning and a better way to cure the Plague besides prayer.
In reverse order, what you've said is the change in collective fundie brain cells.
in the 40's and 50's it was trillions of brain cells
the 60's and 70's it went to billions
80's and 90's it went to millions
and now in the 2000's i have heard them say thousands.
The Big Bang theory has been around for several decades, and I seriously doubt that they gradually realised it was actually older and older than they thought it was.
I'm pretty sure we figured out pretty quickly that it was a couple of billion years old . . .
"and the government enjoys anything but the Truth ."
I will have to call BS on that. I'm pretty sure the government loves Paul Pierce's tax money, since he probably pays a fair amount. And when Obama takes over, I can see him getting the call for a Presidential pick-up game.
