Where Does the "Big Bang Theory" say the animals got their names?

The Bible says that God brought the animals to Adam for him to name in Genesis 2:19. By naming all of the animals, Adam demonstrated that he was master over them, as God gave man dominion over all of his creatures.

Biblical Examples

The Bible indicates that when someone names another person or thing, it shows that he has power over them. For example, you'll find the Pharaoh renaming one of the kings of Judah.

Then Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah, and changed his name to Jehoiakim (2 Kings 23:14).

There is also the episode of the Babylonians renaming Daniel and his three friends when they were brought captive to Babylon (Daniel 1).

Anyway, my point is, that our God is a God of order. Scripture even says by the mouth of God himself that "Let all things be done decently and in order. 1 Cor 14:40. The account of Creation was done exactly as written. Creation is a fact, It has already occured and God, Elohim the creator and sustainer of all life is maker of all things! He is INDESCRIBABLE! God says Adam, the first man named all creatures. What do the other theories say about where we got names for the creatures? Does anyone have that type of information? Christians have the Word of God which I can confidently say is the truth concerning all things. If you want the truth, The Holy Bible is where to find it. God bless!

Wow, what an idiot. Does he not realize that anyone can see something and name it? When something new is discovered, a scientist usually names it. Or does this moron think that Adam magically appears, gives it a name, and then mysteriously disappears? And you say god is a god of order, and all things should be done in a decent order. How much you want to bet this jerk is a Pentecostal, the least orderly of all christian sects? And if god cannot be described, then why do you give him descriptors of 'creator', 'sustainer', and 'maker'? There's no 'theory' about where we got names for creatures. Somebody finds one, then names it, it really is that simple.

Edit: For the millioneth time, Biology has nothing to do with Astronomy, and Astronomy has nothing to do with naming animals.

Right, so on the sixth day God created mankind, male and female, in quantity (Genesis 1.27)

No wait, he didn't do that. He made just one man, all on his own (2.7). He didn't even have animals for company, so God made them there and then (2.19) but hold on, he's already done this (1.25). Then he makes a woman from Adan's side (2.22).

Any attempt to produce a coherent account of creation will at some point contradict Genesis, because Genesis contradicts itself; and that's before we even ask whether its early chapters contain any literal history or science. If your brain works properly you will know that they don't.

But I don't know why we're bothering. The question "Where Does the "Big Bang Theory" say the animals got their names?" was posted on Yahoo and received some quite intelligent answers, of which the most succinct was

"Try studying linguistic anthropology, and you'll understand how languages evolved -- and thereby names invented -- without having to resort to a book of ancient fairytales. The Big Bang has nothing to do with language." Yahoo users approved this by 27 votes to 5.

Guess what. The asker of the question chose this as the best answer:

The Big Bang Theory is astrophysics, not biology. So it has nothing to say about how the animals got their names. When Adam named the animals, did he use their common names, or give them their scientific names? Now, the Qur'anic version makes a little more sense, because it says Allah taught Adam the names to the animals. It's all still crap, but theirs stinks a little less. Now, about Jehoiakim. When I done my study on seven proofs from the first two chapters of the Gospel of Matthew why Jeebus couldn't have been the Messiah, Jehoiakim was one problem. Jeebus is a direct descendant of Jehoiakim, as listed in Matthews geneology. But according to the prophet Jeremiah, no descendant of Jehoiakim would ever take the throne of Israel. This is one of the reasons why, in my opinion, Paul urges believers not to take stock of geneologies. If your god is a god of order, like your book says, then why are there between 33 and 34 thousand different denominations, all teaching different things? This is chaos to me, especially since the NT condemns divisions in the church. If the account of creation was done exactly as written, then why are there two accounts of the creation of man? Nothing in the bible is "truth", and shouldn't be taken as anything dealing with reality.

I grew up going to church and Sunday school. I was taught about Adam and Eve. Looking back, I realize that even as a young child, who knew nothing about science, it didn't make sense to me. In fact, every time I tried to read the Bible, I couldn't make it past Genesis because it all sounded ridiculous. When I went to public high school and learned about evolution and biology and genetics, THAT made sense. I don't know where it all started or if the Big Bang makes total sense either. But I know that man wrote the Bible...a compilation of myths and parables and stories from other cultures and religions as a way to explain things they couldn't explain and as a set of social rules to live by.

It has a lot of good things in it...Thou shalt not kill...that's a good one. The "Golden Rule" is another good one. But, I do not believe in God any more than I believe in Zeus. And I live my life trying not to hurt other people if I can help it. It's actually quite freeing to let yourself not believe. No guilt.

Why, the Big Bang Theory (I call him Big Bang, sometimes, or just The Banger, we're quite close) was speaking to me just the other day, in my garage, about this very thing.

The Bible says that God brought the animals to Adam for him to name in Genesis 2:19.

We were kidding around and wondered just how this might have gone down -

Adam; "Ah, here come animal parade. Me name them. Here Hairy. Next Stinky. Shits way big. And Hairier. Look Like Me, next, and Long Hangdown, whoa!."

Well, let me tell you, Gravity and I had a chuckle or two, but Q. Physics thought we were being silly. Thermo D., Jr. came over later and we all had a few brewskies. Good times, good times.

@Lady Evil: Actually, that's a myth. There were thousands of indigenous Australian languages spoken by the various indigenous Australian peoples.* Cook landed on one part of the coast, where they briefly communicated with the local indigenous tribe, and learnt a few words, including the native animal, kanguru. When Captain Cook and crew moved along the coast, they proudly used the words they had picked up to communicate with other aboriginals they met; the problem was that these people spoke different languages and this resulted in more confusion. As a result, the word kanguru means horse in several indigenous languages, as the word and the animal were introduced to said tribes at the same time.

The same myth has appeared in nearly all colonial lands, applied to various animals and landmarks. It was probably best poked fun at by Terry Pratchett: One of the Discworld's mountains is called, by colonists but in the native language, Your Finger You Fool. The myth comes off as a little racist to me, as if people of different cultures can't communicate at all, when in reality a little gesticulation goes a long way. The supposed naivete of both the anonymous native and the colonist is also a little beyond belief.

I also suspect that this douche believes that Adam named the kinds, not all the animals. More bullshit. That just means that dingoes, wolves, domestic dogs, foxes and all other canids evolved from a common ancestor over some 6000-odd years. If they accepted scientific data on evolution, they'd know that's way too fast - dogs and wolves have been separating twice as long as that (or maybe longer), and are still genetically the same species. So fundies do accept evolution sometimes, if it lets them rationalise their delusions.

*Around where I live (rural Victoria), there were several indigenous peoples, including the Koori and the Yorta Yorta, who had amazingly different languages considering they interacted so often.

What you have said is ignorance bordering on the insanity of a destructive mental over conditioning by mass cultism. It's so over the top I doubt you realize you have just admitted you are running out of bounds on the chart of mental balance and stability.

If the animals were given their names by some unseen god in a lost language that is arguably difficult to translate, why do you use the names in a different language now? Was that your god's intent? Are you certain?

By your own reckless lack of even slightly reasonable logic you infer that man now has absolute dominion over animals that Adam named--yet we are not factually assured we have those names correctespecially considering there are about 6,500 spoken languages on earth.

Additionally, that means that you are changing the words of your god to suit yourself. Were I religious I would have to find that an absolutely blasphemous, amoral, and completely disrespectful thing to doof course, according to your bible.

Blasphemy is absolutely unforgivable and a forever ticket to hell, or it's forgivable, as that book of confusion and horror, the bible, has it both ways.

Creationism is not a "fact", it is an ancient myth that does not belong in this age of reason. It is only mass cult following.

You and other religious people have nothing but the meaningless blather of dogma to offer. Thus anyone logical cannot have a meaningful discussion with a myth oriented, non logical Christian about the difficulties they have created with their demands of religious acceptanceor elseand the problems that causes in society.

Religion makes the error of insisting that all other humans on the planet MUST accept their lack of circumspect reality and confused and ludicrous biblical mythology and become equally and blindly biased in that same myth, or they will become *the hated*.

Point is, BBT doesn't say (nor was it ever intended to explain) how animals got their names. Why do fundie-idiots (including the mega-moron Ben Stein) assume the BBT has to explain everything (which it doesn't) and then say, "See how stupid and wrong it is? It doesn't explain how animals got their names, it can't be true! You'd be an idiot to believe the BBT!" It's about as stupid as saying, "See? The bible doesn't explain 4G cellular networks, see how stupid and wrong it is? You'd have to be an idiot to believe the bible!" It's also as stupid as saying, "See? Your Betty Crocker Cookbook doesn't say how to change the brakes on a car, see how stupid and wrong it is? You'd have to be an idiot to believe anything Betty Crocker says!"

Oh, and why don't you READ (I know, it's probably a challenge for you) what the BBT actually says? STUDY it more than you do your babble, perhaps you might actually learn why what you asked is such an idiotic question.
