Yes, why would they settle on getting just some of the rights.
If you are a fundie who won't settle for seperation of church and state, which will give you all the same rights as everyone else but no special privileges, or treat everyone like dirt and claim to 'love them', if you won't grow a brain, why don't you just "drink the kool-aid and die"?
Gays pay taxes too? Of course. So why should there be any legal discrimination against them?
Religion is a separate issue. For a Church or religion to interfere in the granting of equal rights to all citizens is a political act and should automatically disqualify such a religion/church from tax exemption and re-define it as a political organization.
Note: you said "some" of the rights. Not all. Why shouldn't gay couples get all of the rights? That's what they want. That's one of the main reasons why they're not content with simply being in civil unions and want to get married. And if civil unions are good enough for them, then why aren't more heterosexuals joining civil unions?
Separate but equal does not work, moron. And you are a heartless cretin for telling them to die simply because they are gay. Homosexuality is not a choice. Bigoted stupidity is. So why don't YOU "straighten up?"
I'm really thinking we should consider this "civil union" thing. Basically leave "marriages" to the churches, and "civil unions" are done by JPs. I'm thinking we'd probably get a few more votes that way.

Because:
1. Many of the "rights" that come from marriage are positive rights, rather than negative rights
2. Marriage is an institution for raising children primarily. Expanding marriage to include gays normalizes the idea that children can be motherless or fatherless, not as an accident of circumstance but as something that we can aspire to or simply ignore.
3. A legal distinction between marriages and civil unions is no more different than the legal distinction between corporations (for profit entities) and charitable NGOs. Are you going to argue this is discrimination as well?
Gays now have the right to marry in the US; your side lost.

It should be noted that HIV medication is insanely expensive and... well... it's gonna lead to a very agonizing death if it progresses to AIDS when you get older as your body fails to fight even a simple infection.
