The truth about the mentally ill is it IS a sin complication; not that it is a direct result of ones personal sin, which it can very well be, but it is a general result of sin altogether.
Sometimes it is demonic in origen, sometimes it is due to physical imperfections in the cerebial cortex.

And all those kids that have psychological problems because their parents abused them - they are messed up because they are just bad kids? Is that your assertion?
It's not because their parents are monumental fuckheads. I'll be sure to tell them at the next meeting. Their problems are due to their own shortcomings.
Thanks. That really helps.

So physical imperfections in the CEREBRAL cortex are demonic in origin? People with mental illnesses are "paying for everyone's sin" (whatever that means)?
You get an F.
Someone made this same argument to me when trying to explain miscarriages, that sin existing in general and not even your own sin can make bad things happen to you. He didn't really have an answer for me when I asked if even believing in Jesus can't protect you from sin, even though his whole shtick was getting killed to wash away sin supposedly, then what's the point?
It must be hell for schizophrenics who have families that believe that crap. They are literally encouraged to believe their own hellish delusions by whacked out "religious" idiots. Like a parent that tells his kid that the monster in the closet is real, and will devour the child, but possibly if the kid is good, maybe he won't.
As a sufferer of major depression, social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, and an eating disorder, I kindly ask you to please go fuck yourself.
Since when were physical imperfections in neuronal structures due to sin? And I can only assume, since no other mention is made, that neurotransmitter inbalances are equivalent to "demonic in origen".
This is consistent with creationism's vile doctine of the "curse", according to which pain, death and disease in all its forms were God's punishment for Adam and Eve's disobedience to his command. These things did not exist before the "Fall". On that basis, of course mental illness is the result of sin one way or another. So is every other kind of illness and misfortune.
What a nice loving god these fundies believe in. Not the real one of course, but you can't tell them that.
Gee, all this time I was blaming my anxiety on the family of my boyfriend... now I can blame all you sinners!!!
Strangely, I feel better now too.
Environmental or organic, mental illness has nothing to due with "sin."
Why don't you religious zealots stick to subjects you know, such as polyester suits, 70s haircuts and making bad coffee. Leave psychiatry to those who actually know something about psychiatry.
Clearly, from what you say, you are mentally ill. Therefore you must be a sinner.
How delightfully circular this is!
The "it wouldn't exist in a perfect world" part makes a grain of sense, but then we get into demons.
Explaining the Jewish concepts of angels and demons Jesus was drawing on wouldn't actually work, would it?
WELL, I regularly see a shrink...OH MY GARSH! I MUST BE POSSESSED!!! MY HEAD IS SPINNING & BBBLLLAAARRRGGGHHKK....I JUST BARFED PEA SOUP!....NOW I GONNA GRAB A CRUCIFIX AND...........well, you get the picture...ouch!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
