I agree that Oligarchies are bad but why the fuck are you supporting the status quo of which this Oligarchy consists ?
11/22/2008 12:16:33 AM
And you have the right to drive a pink scooter, just like everyone else.
11/22/2008 12:33:58 AM
I bet people used to say that about blacks too.
11/22/2008 12:34:19 AM
What everyone seems to be missing, which I think is due to propaganda, is that Negroes already have the same rights as Whites. They just don't want those rights. No one in Texas can marry "who they want". They can marry someone of the same race. Negroes, as well as Whites, have just as much right to marry as anyone else. It just has to be with someone of the same race.
So the debate shouldn't be whether they have the same rights or not. Clearly they do. Its whether we, as a society, want people of different races to enter into marriage, White or Negro.
To say its an issue of rights is both irresponsible and alarmist, and makes your position factually incorrect.
And no, it isn't "separate but equal". There is no difference at all in how a Negro may exercise the institution of marriage than a white person. And honestly, that's their issue. It is the exact same as a person who is white. They want something that is different. They want something tailored made for them.
I'm against it, but I'm not going to lose sleep if it ends up passing. But I will be absolutely furious if the will of the people is thwarted by judicial tyranny under the guise of "rights". One of our biggest problems as a society is that the people are ignored, and men in black robes deciding our future reeks of an Oligarchy.
11/22/2008 12:43:02 AM
The argument is irrelevant because no straight person would ever even try to marry someone of the same sex. The issue is that Straight people can marry the ones they love and get benefits, like combined pension, from it. Gay people cannot do this because the ones they love are of the same sex and the government will not honour same sex spouses.
11/22/2008 12:44:12 AM
But heterosexual people aren't attracted to their own sex. *flings a dictionary*
11/22/2008 12:51:33 AM
Gay people who want to get married are not asking for different rights. You say they have the same rights now; well, if they are allowed to marry, you and them will still have the same rights. You would have the right to marry someone of the same sex, just as they do.
11/22/2008 12:55:14 AM
As a straight girl, I 'want' to marry my boyfriend. If I were a gay girl, I would 'want' to marry my girlfriend.
So, I'm straight, so I can exercise the institution of marriage (wtf?) to marry who I 'want'. If I'm gay, I can't. Therefore, this is an issue of equal application of the law.
11/22/2008 1:02:12 AM
One: You missed the point.
Two: It -IS- "Separate but Equal".
Three: You're an idiot, and your IQ is probably below room temperature.
11/22/2008 1:05:28 AM
That is just about the most stupid argument I have heard. What if the rule of the land was that gay people have the right to marry and sraight people don't? (Maybe, as determined on a state-by-state basis, they can have "civil unions"). It would be fair, right? After all, they have the same right! They can marry someone of their same gender!
11/22/2008 1:19:34 AM
How is permitting same-sex marriage "judicial tyranny"?
11/22/2008 1:32:44 AM
What the fuck do these people think judges are supposed to do?
11/22/2008 1:33:01 AM
What everyone seems to be missing, which I think is due to propaganda, is that gays already have the same rights as straights. They just don't want those rights. No one in the United States can marry "who they want". They can marry someone of the opposite gender.
Do you notice the fault in this? Thats like saying that everyone has the right to wear size 4 jeans.
11/22/2008 1:49:28 AM
Let's think about this... Now, what is it that makes homosexuals a minority? Oh yeah! Gay boys don't want to marry girls and gay girls don't want to marry boys.
Here's a little known fact, Silverline: Homosexuals don't DATE, or even WANT to date, the opposite sex! I know, crazy, huh? THAT'S why they're different than straight people which makes them a minority in our society. I've dated plenty of guys who were married to women and some even had kids, not one of them ever regretted being honest with themselves and coming out. So, you see, your brilliant insight (the one that "everyone seems to be missing") has been practiced for generations and it has failed miserably, tearing apart families and destroying lives.
You shouldn't worry about it though because when gay marriage is legal you can marry your buddy if you want to - you don't even have to be gay to do it - see, same rights. All equal and stuff.
11/22/2008 1:50:32 AM
The problem, though, is that homosexuals don't have the right to marry who they LOVE. Don't you people also try and save marriage is about more than just sex?

11/22/2008 2:00:38 AM
One of our biggest problems as a society is that the people are ignored, and men in black robes deciding our future reeks of an Oligarchy.
But you believe you have a "right" to decide mine and my wife's and our friends' futures? That reeks of something to me, too, but it's not "Oligarchy." More like pure bigoted horseshit.
Fuck yourself with an immersion blender.

Meet Tom and Amy. They both want to marry Jane. It is legal for Tom to marry Jane. It is illegal for Amy to marry Jane. The only legal difference between Amy and Tom is their gender. This is called "gender discrimination." The federal constitution says laws cannot discriminate based upon gender or race in the same amendment. Every lawmaker involved knew the law banning same sex marriage is unconstitutional just like the ban on interracial marriage was for the exact same reason. The law is just a political move and an attempt to stall and prevent gays from using their constitutional rights until a lot of money is paid to lawyers and the whole thing goes to the supreme court (who will rule gay marriage bans are illegal).
11/22/2008 2:20:38 AM
A decision I favor demonstrates the majesty of the law. I decision I oppose is judicial tyranny.
11/22/2008 2:29:39 AM
lol my fist accepted submission
lol I got baned from wow for a day
11/22/2008 3:07:34 AM
So people should enter loveless, joyless unions just for the tax breaks and privileges that allow two people who desire to be life-long partners get by more easily in the world?
11/22/2008 3:23:26 AM
So they can only marry people that they don't want to fuck. Sounds like a terrible relationship. But will they have the same rights if... you what? Fuck You! I'm not gay, but I'm sick of you people, bitching about your rights, and how you're always being persecuted! No-one gives a fuck about you or your opinion! You are not oppressed, no-one is infringing on your rights and no-one is trying to destroy the fabric of your stupid American society. SHUT THE FUCK UP! YOU SOUND LIKE A BROKEN RECORD PLAYER!
11/22/2008 4:15:50 AM
Hey genius, what part of "gay people do not want to marry someone of the opposite sex" do you NOT understand? Why should straight people be the only ones allowed to marry the people they love? Infertile heterosexual couples exist, so lack of reproduction isn't a reason.
11/22/2008 4:56:53 AM
No one in the United States can marry "who they want". They can marry someone of the opposite gender. Straights, as well as gays, have just as much right to marry as anyone else.
Don't most straight people want to marry someone of the opposite sex?
And congratulations mike-mike! Welcome to the board! (Though I am sorry about the ban-though you were courageous to take it from a site you normally visit. The few times I post things (because I feel bad about it) I usually skulk around RR or places like that.)

[Beaten to the punch] ...still like my "men in white robes" crack, though.
