People have shown in the Word that he was materially rich. It defies reason logic to think someone as famous a Jesus wasn't.

Jesus was rich? Chapter and verse, please.
And someone on CF appealing to reason and logic concerning Jesus? Excuse me while I laugh.
*facepalm*
Jesus didn't approve of wealth, or capitalism for that matter. He was a socialist.
Stop using Jesus to excuse your own behavior. If he were alive today he would be a Democrat.
Mark 10:25
"It is easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into the kingdom of God."
International Standard Version
Also, a note about logic: YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.
This is "Word of Faith" "TBN" "Televangelist" give me money so I can be rich, because Jesus was rich, bullshit. Jesus was poor, he had nothing, and he even said so, several times. Televangelists use this line to convince their idiot followers that it's ok for material wealth to be #1 in a persons life. This is compeltely anti-christian, and yet millions are duped into following it. This is one of the main reasons why I reject christianity. Because this shows that christians are predominantly idiots who have no real idea what the bible says, and only know a few verses who's interpretation has been twisted to the point that it's unrecognizable as being in the bible, other than the quote itself. It takes a real special kind of idiot to believe in this clap-trap horseshit, and an even more special kind of retard to think that it's actually what god wants, and can be found in the bible. This is the saddest, most pathetic form of 'christianity', if it can even be called that. Because while most fundamentalitst hold to a particular set of beliefs that makes them idiots, these kind hold to a set of beliefs that not only make them idiots, it makes them poor and needy in the process. I really feel sorry for these people who follow such insane shit.
All famous people are rich, and to think otherwise is illogical?
Reality check on Aisle 9, please.
I love it. Here's one of the arguments they present to claim Jesus was wealthy:
Old Testament Israel - what was the gift one king gave at the birth of another? Gold frankincense and myrrh. But how much gold? If you are honestly interested there are a number of encyclopedia and historical books you can search out and find that the typical gift was ten talents of gold -
But how much is a talent of gold? 91 pounds - which is 1,456 ounces - at today's price 748.00 an ounce. That would make it a $1,089,088 gift in today's world. Does the scripture say that they were given ten talents, NO - but that was the offering at the birth of a king.
Sure thing. Some guy set off from some distant land in the East with 910 pounds of gold. Even if we imagine that he brought with him a camel train and a small army or guards that the Bible just fails to mention, how would Joseph and Mary move such a fortune?
Jesus, yeah, the right hand man of Pablo Escobar. Jesus was the one who turned Escobar in. Jesus was pissed about that whole Judas thing, so he decided he'd get his and turn Escobar in, then took his money and his drugs. Jesus is now living phat with his own private island in the Caribbean.
So the reason he ran off the money traders was because he didn't like the competition? Seriously read your own fucking book at least once.
I guess they're just pissed off because the Buddhists got a prince (that left his material goods behind) and they got a guy born in a barn.
Matt 5:2 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
Mark 10:21-22 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
A typical TBN apologist. On talk radio in So.Cal near TBN headquarters during one of the TBN scandals a while back, these fools would call in to tell about how they send in a chunk of their tiny Social Security checks every month to those scam artists. Many TBN followers seemed to believe that God has personally ordained the lavish private lifestyles of the Crouch family and other evengelists on the network, and were immensely proud to be the ones providing the funding for it from their meager incomes. Minor arguments like Jesus's attitude to wealth and charity seemed not to compute.
Got to hand it to TBN, they've got the brainwashing down to a science.
Jesus was so rich that he, his apostles, and his whole evangelizing mission was supported first by Mary Magdalene (who was NOT a prostitute, but a single, propertied woman), and then by Lydia, a woman who owned a business in purple dye (rare, costly, and highly desirable) after Jesus's death.
Didn't the Franciscans settle this argument by deciding whether or not Jesus owned his own clothes, thereby deciding whether or not the order could own property, etc.?
Jeez ...
And yet Warren Buffet is a philanthropist. So is Bill Gates, using most of his fortune to do good works via his Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. I notice all you fundy/neocon types aren't exactly rushing to follow their example.
And messrs Buffet & Gates could still afford to have a needle, scaled up, so that a camel could pass through it. Ergo, Warren Buffet owns Heaven, and Bill Gates* is God.
*- Proof that there's a typo in the Bible. It SHOULD say 'The GEEK shall inherit the earth'.
@Sawyer
I've heard say on here, and concur...if Jesus were to come back today, his own people whould bind him, and burn him as a heretic.
Counterexample:
Gary Coleman.
"The birds have nests, and the foxes have holes, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
If Jesus were wealthy, wouldn't He have had a place to lay his head?
I think the only part of the Four Gospels these idiots ever read is the 23rd chapter of Matthew (a.k.a., the "Little Apocalypse").
How can I, an atheist, know more about your religion than you?
"I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God" - Jesus [Matt 19:24 KJV]
"The young man said. 'What do I still lack?' Jesus answered, 'If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor , and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.' When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth." - Matthew 19:20-22 [NIV]
Prosperity Gospel propaganda. So evangalist leaders can excuse their luxurious lifestyle and sign on celebrities who pretend to be pious, humble servants of the lord. Like Pat Boone, who not only says he's been blessed with sucess by God but that "God wanted me to be rich"
Great thing about those American denominations, there's a church to agree with you on most anything
Confused?
