Why would Obama bring up slavery? Because he's black? For your information, I have several Jewish friends and we've never talked about the Holocaust. We're not trying to avoid talking about it; it's just that it's never found its way into our conversations. Really? EVERY president we've had so far in our history has done a good job? And I don't even need to mention the obvious example, Bush. What about Andrew Johnson and his conflicts with Congress, which ultimately led to the demise of Reconstruction? What about Richard Nixon, who was caught illegally wiretapping his opponents' headquarters? What about Hebert Hoover, who failed to prevent the country from sliding into the Great Depression and failed to come up with a sufficient solution to get the country out of it? All of those presidents were white, Joe. Their race does not excuse them from their mistakes.

Those two things are not necessarily exclusive. Australia is a highly multicultural society and it's one of the most well-developed countries in the world. Argentina is basically the United States of Latin America in terms of diversity and it's the most highly developed country of South America.
