I'm totally against Santa Claus.
1. I believe that all magic is evil and Santa uses magic.
2. How can it be good for parents to lie to their children about the existence of Santa?
3. He's a tool for parents to bribe/threaten their children into good behavior.
4. He's a powerful symbol of consumerism (the modern Santa was originally an advertising campaign for Coca-Cola).
I don't mind the pagan origins of some Christmas traditions since they have been changed into something good.

This made me laugh outloud. Seriously.
First, according to point 2 Santa does not exist, yet according to point 1 he uses magic. Which is it? Does he not exist or does he use magic?
Point 3 says that he's a tool for behavioral modication....exactly like the church uses Hell for.
Point 4 is technically valid to a certain extent, the modern Santa is the creation of the Coca Cola advertising department, but Santa was around for a heck of a long time before that. In fact, Santa predates "consumerism" by a significant span of time.
1) God is magical. No one knows "HOW" he did the things he did, or by what means he formed elements? Did he think them into existence? By what means did they simply come into being? It's magic.
2) I could say the same about lying to kids about God (we cannot prove God either way, but we know the existence of the Judeo-Christian entity to be false, since the Biblical text is inaccurate; historically, scientifically...etc.
3) The same could be said of God/Jesus, once again.
4) Your God is a powerful symbol of primitive Mesopotamian Barbarism. Consumerism is a blight, sure, but it's a modern blight. Yours is just an ancient one.
"I'm totally against Fundamentalism
1. I believe that all fundamentalism is evil and Christianity has become fundamentalist.

Fixed
"threaten their children into good behavior." Is that like "If you don't follow the bible you'll burn in hell for eternity?"
I'm relieved you don't mind the Pagan origins. *sarcasm* I'm surprised you're giving Mithras some love. I believe there are a few others born around the winter solstice , born of a virgin, rose from the dead, etc.
"He's a tool for parents to bribe/threaten their children into good behavior."
Wait, how is this different from Christian doctrine again?....
#3 is the best tool christians have for gaining converts and keeping christians in the cult. Santa is, or was, a real person, St. Nicolas of Myra, a christian bishop in the 4th century. He paid the dowries of three sisters so their father wouldn't have to sell them into prostitution (this is post empire christianity, mind you), and he also punched the heretic Arius during the 1st ecumenical council at nicea. #2, parents lie to their children about the existence of god, so why not Santa? #4, christianity is just as guilty of 'consummerism' as anything else. They push their christian fads on the public like it's sliced bread or something. All of these points can be attributed directly to the influence of christianity, including #1.
I'm totally against Santa Claus.
Well, hell, me too. I hate the fat prick. And Mickey Mouse, too.
Hey, Lardass - where in hell is my goddamn electric train, yo sell it ya fat bastid? Waiting since 1954 and getting tired of it.
Oh, they make it so easy. It's not even worth trying.
BTW, nice name rose given your stance on paganism.
I'm totally against Santa Claus Jesus.
1. I believe that all magic is evil and Santa Jesus uses magic.
2. How can it be good for parents to lie to their children about the existence of Santa Jesus?
3. He's a tool for parents to bribe/threaten their children into good behavior.
4. He's a powerful symbol of consumerism (the modern Santa Jesus was originally an advertising campaign for Coca-Cola the RCC).
I don't mind the pagan origins of some Christmas traditions since they have been changed into something good.
that was too easy
I'm totally aganist the Christian God
1. I beleive eternal punishment is evil and God uses eternal punishment.
2. How can it be good for parents to lie their children about the existance of their evil god?
3. He's a tool for parents to bribe/threaten their children into good behavior.
4. he's a powerful symbol of consumerism (the modern church is extremely rich)
I don't mind the christian origins of some holidays since they have been changed into something good.
Actually, with the exception of point #1, I agree with the writer.
My offspring was raised without the belief in Santa. You should have seen how much this disturbed people -- it was almost as if I was being accused of child abuse for not having taught her a lie.
My offspring was also raised without the belief in God, but people seemed to find that much easier to accept.
*cough*...
1. Magic isn't real, and neither is Santa. Are you an idiot on the level of being worried about fictional books like Harry Potter? Ohnoes, not works of fiction!
2. How can it be good for parents to lie to their children about the existence of a god or gods?
3. Ironic. Fucking moron, this is a fitting description of 'God' as well.
4. True, but 'God' is also a powerful consumer tool... just look at rich megachurches.
"3. He's a tool for parents to bribe/threaten their children into good behavior.:
Kinda like Hell for you people
"I don't mind the pagan origins of some Christmas traditions since they have been changed into something good."
Why were they not before? Pagans are good people for the most part. I am a good person, I do not need your Jesus to be so.
2. How can it be good for parents to lie to their children about the existence of Santa?
3. He's a tool for parents to bribe/threaten their children into good behavior.
These two, in particular, make the baby Jesus cry.
Firstly, there is little of the Celt left in you! Better find another pseudonym.
1. there is no such thing as magic(k) or Santa.
2. how can it be good for parents to lie to their children about god? There is about the same level of proof for either of them
3. the same can be said about god.
4.the same can be said about god- Crystal Cathedrals - god needs your money to keep me (the preacher) in wealth...etc. Asl, you are wrong about Santa. He is a modern version of the Bishop of Myra, Nikolaos, who went about doing good - specifically helping poor girls with dowries for marriage. He was celebrated in the Netherlands as Sint Niclaas - a small step to Santa Claus.
I am truly amazed as the bitterness of thought that you seem to mistake for purity of mind. It is but a step away from evil, and you cannot recognise this! Amazing! You would wilfully destroy something that is good, and encourages generosity in people for the sake of your narrow and puritanical view. You make me puke at what you are, and the hypocritical difference from what you think you are.
I'm totally against Jesus Christ/God
1. I believe that all magic is evil and Jesus/God uses magic.
2. How can it be good for parents to lie to their children about the existence of Jesus/God
3. He's a tool for parents to bribe/threaten their children into good behavior.
4. He's a powerful symbol of consumerism (the modern Jesus/God was originally an advertising campaign for Reebok).
I'm a hypocrite who'll admit to paganism in Christianity, but still believe Christianity is unique because I've been brainwashed to think that way.
I'm totally against Jesus Christ.
1. I believe that all magic is evil and Jesus did miracles.
2. How can it be good for parents to lie to their children about the resurrection of Jesus?
3. He's a tool for parents to bribe/threaten their children into good behavior.
4. He's a powerful symbol of anti-intellectualism.
I don't mind the Christian origins of some Christmas traditions since they have been changed into something good.
At the risk that these things are getting old . . .
My Ironyometer broke.
Seriously, he claims that all magic is evil, yet he believes in a deity that MAGICALLY inseminated a virgin to give birth to a mortal incarnation of himself in order to forgive humanity of the Original Sin that he himself condemned us to?
Give us a fucking break
I mind you guys messing with my holidays, using old symbolism and twisting it around to fit your christian believes. Then you cry - don't take christ out of Christmas - a holiday that didn't have anything to do with Christ in the first place!
Anyway - parents bribing and threatening their children into good behavior? Sounds like fundy christianity to me! I'd rather have parents tell their kids - Santa will not bring you any presents, than beating their children black and green to make them "behave"
Whereas Christian's use the threat of hell (or eternal damnation/burning forever) to get their children to behave? Ya know, I prefere Santa, (Even if he's used in commercials and such)you holiday killer.
@Alex
Same here. We don't trick our kids into believing in santa either and they don't even care. They just think he's a story-book character like Spiderman. Extended family freak out though "You're runining childhood!" "It's not christmas without santa!" It's pretty funny. We don't try to get them to believe in Jesus either, but no one seems to mind about that. I'm lucky I guess.
I'm totally against God.
