[The beginning of a list of how to pray for Japan]

¨ The sincere, polite, hard-working Japanese are too busy to give heed to the gospel and have little concept of personal sin. Pray that economic shocks, political instability and fears for the future may shake many out of complacency.

¨ There is a resurgence of a nationalistic Shintoism which is hostile to anything un-Japanese.

¨ New religions and sects have grown faster than evangelical Christianity. Pray that those involved would be set free.

Considering how God seems to treat His followers, that is pretty unlikely. The Japanese are not known to follow Abrahamic religions, and they seem to have huge strides in technology and science ~~in spite of it~~ because of it.

Fuck you ! I've worked for a Japanese company and these people are very sincere and polite. Their culture is fascinating and shintoism is an extremely interesting religion (as it has no dogma) which unites the country spiritually instead of tearing it apart like religion does in our own very country perpetrated by assholes like you.
You pray that bad things will happen to them when your own nation committed the biggest act of terrorism in the history of the world against their country by dropping two nukes on them. They've already been through the apocalypse and arose from it stronger than ever. If anything we can learn from the Japanese.

Yes, the Japanese do have a sense of humour. Lots of slapstick and punning (the large number of homophones in Japanese make it a very pun friendly language). Beyond that it just gets weird.

The westernisation of Japan post Meiji Restoration actually had very little to do with religion. Having looked about and seeing what European colonial powers were doing to their neighbours, including China which had been the local powerhouse for centuries the Japanese decided that the only way to survive was become a colonial power themselves. The rest comes from having to do something with a newly dispossessed class of warrior nobles.

But yeah, forcing a single religion on the Japanese ain't ever going to work. 1400 years of Shinto and Buddhism living side by side (including historically small Buddhist temples as integral parts of some of the large Shinto shrines) has given Japan a very syncretic approach to religion. Look up Maria Kanon for what they did to Christianity during the Edo period.

The Shinto religion is not new. It has been in Japan for hundreds of years.

NO, I'll pray that you intolerant idiots leave them the heck alone! Japan is a lovely country and I greatly admire its culture and people. It is doing quite well on its own, thank you very much, and it does not need egocentric blowhards like you to come in and try to ruin everything. STFU.
