[Do Catholics honestly think that they were the first Church?
Not trying to be offensive, but the first churches were in peoples homes, the Catholic Church came later, and even then the Roman Catholic church was a development of that. Could any Catholic please explain this idea that you were the first church to me?]
When you read the Book of Acts in the Bible, you see clearly that catholicism wasn't "the first church".
Catholicism is not Christian. The first church would have rejected catholicism completely, had catholicism existed at that time. Catholicism didn't exist for over 300 years later.
Catholicism is false. Catholicism teaches a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell (Galatians 1:6-9).
Now you'll find a million catholics and even unbelievers and atheists immediately running to the defense of the catholic cult, but when you read the Bible, you see that catholicism is totally false.
Catholic = faith + works = no salvation and eternal torment in hell
Christian = FAITH ALONE IN JESUS = salvation and eternity in heaven with Jesus! :)

He is right, the catholic church wasn´t the first faith, instead there were lots of small christian sects during the first centuries.
What he fails to see, however is, that protestantism wasn+´t the first faith either. Instead protestantism was just an offspring of catholicism.
Which also makes the bible false, because the books of the bible were selected by the priests of those chruches that would later become the catholic and orthodox churches.
Something which happened at a time (3 centuries after Jesus life and death) where "christian faith" probably didn´t have too much in common with the original christian faith anymore.
So, citing the bible (that protestants more or less share with catholics) which was assembled centuries after jesus (and consists of books, written decades after his death and selected by pauline christians to support their own christian denomination against others [like the jewish and gnostic christians]) to prove that catholicism doesn´t have anything in common with original christianity, is kind of ironic :D
Read the parable of the Sheep and the Goats.
The ones allowed into Heaven were the ones who went out and did things.
Jesus said it.
It was the false prophet, Saul of Tarsus, who said otherwise.
Are you going to take the words of Saul above those of Jesus?
Actually, the Catholics have first dibs on your fantasy book. Paul, a Roman, developed the basis for the RCC with Peter, a Jew, as the first head. Look it up.
Your cults could then be described as offshoots, buds, or excreta, depending on point of view.
I prefer Bubblegum Christianity myself.
Catholic = faith + works = no salvation and eternal torment in hell. Christian = FAITH ALONE IN JESUS = salvation and eternity in heaven with Jesus!
Wait a minute - is he saying if you have faith alone, you get salvation, but if you have faith and also participate in Confirmation, Communion and Confession, you go to hell? Where in the Bible does it say Confirmation, Communion and Confession are sins?
Not trying to take sides, but catholicism and orthodoxy were around before Nicea in 325. Read the ante-nicene church fathers. It's all there long before Constantine. It's all still bullshit, it's just that protestant bullshit stinks more. At least catholics, as well as orthodox, who believe in faith and works, take some responsibility for their own actions, and realize that they don't automatically get a "get out of hell free" card. Protestants just want an easy out for their sins.
My friend, you sound like a moron. Of course Catholics are Christians. They believe in and follow the teaching of Christ therefore, they are Christians, you dope.
It's questionable whether fundies are as fully Christian as Catholics because although they believe in Christ they don't follow his teaching. So maybe they should be called Christabitians.
It's not enough to just believe in Christ, you have to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak. And that's something you fundies continually fail to do. Trouble is, you pay too much attention to a bunch of wicked, money-grubbing pastors.
If I may judge your comprehension capabilities from the above verbiage of your quote then I hardly think you are qualified to speak of biblical interpretation. Or any other form of interpretation come to think of it.
Merry Xmas CJ and all at yahoo crazys.
"Catholic = faith + works = no salvation and eternal torment in hell"
Anti-Semitism + Hell + Sale of Indulgences + Unbaptized Babies in Purgatory + The Crusades + The Inquisition + Collaboration with Nazis and Fascist Regimes + Pedophile Priests + Homophobia + Misogyny - Purgatory Being a Lie x Yearly Income of the Vatic = Catholicism
P.S. It sounds like everything you know about theology was stolen from a Jack Chick tract. All you're doing is a long version of the No True Scotsman fallacy. Well they aren't "true" Christians because Catholics do this, that and the other. If you really are a Protestant like Jack, then I just have one thing to say to you: Ku Klux Klan.
The first Christians were smaller groups. You don't throw a cathedral up on a whim. But for all purposes the Catholics started this mess
The Catholics commissioned and fathered the first Bibles which all today spring from. If you're a Christian learn your history
Apparently you obtained your "knowledge" of Catholicism from one of the wackos on shortwave. Please read up (from LEGITIMATE theologians, historians, etc.) about the theology of the Catholic Church and other religious bodies before you spout off. That way, you won't sound like a complete nutcase next time.

Bingo! You have decoded the Religious Right and their opposition to all programs to help any one but themselves.
Y'know, the first part of it is even arguably correct. According to the Orthodox Church, the Pope is simply one Patriarch among five, with unbelievable delusions of grandeur.
But the last part is bona fide batshit nuts.
@Canadiest: Actually, the first theological councils (eg Nicaea, Ephesus etc) were cross-church councils. Only after the split of 1054 did the Eastern and Western churches hold separate Councils.
Catholic = faith + works = no salvation and eternal torment in hell

James 2:14-26... Faith without works is dead.
In other words, as long as you believe what I believe, it doesnt matter what you do in this life, you still get to go to heaven. Go head and commit all the sins you want, you've got a get-out-of-hell free card.
For fuck's sake, you assholes actually think that teaching people to be kind to one another is going to get someone sent to hell?
You are a bunch of lazy, selfish pricks who just want an excuse to not have to actually do anything, while still acting smug and superior to everyone else.
Fuck you.
See, if you had stopped at your second paragraph, you'd have been fine. I'd have completely agreed with you (as would, I suspect, many Catholics). Then you kept going. You need to learn when to stop talking. Believe me, it'll make your life so much easier if you learn when to stop.
Catholic = faith + works = no salvation and eternal torment in hell
Christian = FAITH ALONE IN JESUS = salvation and eternity in heaven with Jesus! :)
So...Catholicism is wrong because you actually have to earn salvation, and you're a lazy bastard that can't be bothered to do so much as treat his common man with respect, let alone own up to, and atone for your sins?
The whole "faith alone vs. faith and works" thing is yet another fairly major contradiction in the Bible as it appears to support both views; but frankly there's more in there about the works stuff.
Seriously don't see why you'd want to advertise your denomination as a "faith only, no works required" one, since all that is is a seedy sales tactic. It doesn't make your denomination look better than those which require works, and if anything only makes it appear worse.
"...but without charity, I am nothing"
Why do these people want to reject even the good parts of the bible?
Sounds like someone likes the whole idea of living forever in a perfect paradise, but doesn't want to do shit to obtain it.
So, wants something for nothing? Sounds like celestial welfare.
Dude, have you ever heard of the Protestant Reformation? It started in the Renaissance, when people started asking if they really needed a priest or other member of the clergy to intercede with God for them, and as a reaction to the scandals and abuses - specifically, indulgences - that took place within the Catholic church at the time. The rejection of the universal authority of the Pope and the view of the Bible as the "only source of revealed truth" came directly from that.
And, for the record, that verse in Galatians refers to the proponents of the interpretation of Christianity that dictated that a person needed to convert to Judaism and then to Christianity, and as Christians adhere to certain aspects of Mosaic law. This undermined Paul's authority as a leader of the early Church, so of course he would denounce it as false.
And as for the reason that Catholicism is simply referred to as the Church of Rome, or simply the Church, is that there was no other at that time. The Protestant movement didn't really get started until the sixteenth century.
Confused?
