People who want to take Christ out of the "holiday"?
Are you ready to give back your gifts. The tradition of gift giving is an echo of the wise men giving Jesus gifts. If you are going to be unwise and remove Christ from the "Holiday" are you also ready to do without Gifts? Or is your ethical stand only for show, with nothing behind it?

Yes, because nobody ever gave gifts during midwinter feast days before the modern holiday of Christmas. It never, ever happened.
Is it me, or are Christians becoming the cultural equivalent of patent trolls these days?

Sounds like the gift giving has no christian roots but was rather a custom which was done at new years eve even in non christian rome.
It was even opposed by the catholic church and only when they realized that they couldn´t get rid of the gift giving, they sought for (and found) a christian justification for gifts during this time ;)
Gift giving at winter time preceded the whole birth of Jesus thing. Children got presents from Odin instead of Santa Claus, to provide one example.
Get the Christ out of the Winter Solstice and celebrate his birthday when he was supposed to have actually been born or STFU.

No one wants to take Christ out of Christmas. But he has no place in Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Eid al Adha. Maybe no one celebrates those things in East Dipwad, Kentucky, but some of us have friends and neighbors and coworkers and customers in other parts of the country besides Redneck Land.
Christians don't have a monopoly on December. There are other religions that celebrate holidays during this month, and yes, some also involve gift giving. And besides, gift giving started LONG BEFORE your miracle boy came into the picture. Do your research, Fundie!
Actually, the tradition of gift-giving is from when my parents gave me crap as a child.
It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Jesus.
I don't see the the name "christ" in the word "holiday". And if you really want to be christlike the don't eat a big feast, donate your presents, and go volunteer at a homless shelter. If not then STFU and let me celebrate a hijacked pagan holiday.
I have an even better idea, Fucky McFuckerton. How about I give and receive gifts any god damn day of the year that I feel like it, and you back the fuck off and stay out of my business.
Oh, and keep the fucking change.
People want to take your christ out of a non-christian holiday? Oh the horror. You stole this holiday from the pagans, and now your bitching when people revert to it's pagan origins. Learn some fucking history, you moron. Get over yourself, your religion is nothing but a rip-off.
The only 'gift' fundies have for anyone is a rash of shit... any time of year, doesn't matter.
The tradition of holiday gift giving is an echo of the candles and other doodads exchanged at Diem Natalis Solis Invicti, as well as....
Who started that fruitcake tradition, anyway?
Yes, let's promote materialism and consumerism in the name of Jesus. Because Jesus was all about that.
And, btw, the root of the word "holiday" is "holy day". Christmas is a holy day in the church, so shut up already.
Gifts weren't always given on Christmas day in all cultures. My parents grew up in Quebec, and they used to tell me when I was a child that the tradition, when they were kids, was to hand out the loot on New Year's Day.
Gift-giving is a PAGAN tradition, you douche!
ETA: Fruitcake? Shit, sounds like something Loki would have cooked up. ::shudder:: Damn things don't float, they're THAT dense!
Like Christmas is the only gift-giving holiday *ever*. Dumbass.
Besides, I like an excuse to give presents as well as receive them.
no
we'll keeep the solstice feast, Yule, the festival of Sol Invicta, the Birth of Mithra, etc, etc instead
Considering I asked my family and obliquely my friends (by telling them what I told my family) to give to certain charities in my name first, and if they felt they must give physical gifts what I'd want in that sphere, I think it's documented that I have no trouble giving up gifts to myself.
How about you, No Change? You willing to do your god's work and forgo gifts in order to help "the least of these?" Or is there to be no change to your Greed Day plans?
Are you ready to give back the Winter Solstice Festival your religion - so bereft of it's own culture & traditions - had to steal from the pre -Christian Pagans?
You dare think you have the right to dictate 'Ethics', fundies? And there's me thinking that stealing went against your precious 'Ten Commandments'.
So unwise. [/Megatron]

No, it isn't. It's a hold-over from the Roman Saturnalia.
Confused?
