What percentage of say a really really liberal city say Berkely or San Francisco has true followers of Christ. I would guess after living in both that it's less than 1%.

Re-read your Bible. Sodom and Gamorrah weren't destroyed because of "homosexuals". Jeramiah and the author of Hebrews (probably Lydia but that would piss off lots of Fundies...a woman writing a Bible book) both clearly state that it was their pride and lack of hospitality that got them killed. Some Hebrew texts...like MT...state that women and children were there and the "know them" being used wasn't the sexual way. They thought the "angels" were spies. Unfortunately the english version shows fundie bias and promotes an agenda.
edit: and the city wasn't called Sodom. The word comes from the Hebrew word, "S'dom" which means destroyed.

For all the talk about all these people who are supposed to be raptured away, causing mass hysteria and social breakdowns, one finally realize that there's only going to be a few supposedly taken away, so few, that probably no one will even notice. I've tried to read the Old Testament and had to give up. I found it the most sickening read I've ever had, but I take comfort in the fact that I know it's just a rip-off of other myths and stories made up by Israelites to make them sound tougher than they really were. Not only enslaved people leave behind forged records to make their descendants remember them as something they were not. In short, whenever I think about the OT, I take solace in that it's just a story.

The funny thing is that we DO have a regular fundie named DrDoom who gets quoted here with disturbing regularity.
Read your own fucking bible and maybe you'll realize the sin of S & G had nothing to do with teh ghey, but everything to do with hospitality towards strangers, which was the most serious issue in a middle eastern culture at that time. There are a lot of Christians in Berkeley and in San Francisco. They tend to be decent people though, so Norrin Radd probably doesn't consider them "true followers," which seems to translate as "intolerant assholes."

Ah yes, Sodom and Gomorrah, the city that made God "real mad" so they had to "go on fire"! I heard that it was actually an asteroid that destroyed the cities but if it really was the bible god, how is that any different from, say, Saddam Hussein poison gassing Kurdish cities? Bible god is always the terrorist isn't he?

In defense of Lot's daughters, they thought (wrongly, of course) they were the only survivors of the human race, so their father was literally the last man on earth. They still had to get him drunk so he'd go along with it. Gross, yes, but hardly the casual immorality it might seem.
I'd say that Lampedusa, Italy, is much closer to Sodom and Gomorrah than San Francisco. People from desperately poor and war-infested parts of Asia and Africa flee to Europe to find some kind of a life, and thousands die when the rickety boats that the smugglers use breaks down at sea on the Mediterranean. Many of the refugees are heading for the town of Lampedusa on the southern end of Italy. Europe puts up higher and thicker border barriers against people in dire need. Definite inhospitability, there...
Some countries in the EU (Italy and Spain, who receive most of the refugees, and Sweden and other countries who already accept quite a few of them) are pushing that more countries need to assist in the helping of all these people in need. If all EU countries accept an equal proportion, it will not be that onerous on anyone. But some countries flat out refuse to do their part. A couple of them are Conservative Christian Values kinds of countries, but they just say "we take care of our own, fuck the rest". Very Christian of them...

Sorry, Crimson Lizard, but Lot's daughters actually didn"t have that as an legitimate excuse to engage in their incestuous behavior. They had, in fact, just left a small city called "Zoar", where they had taken refuge from the destruction. So they did know their were other people. I personally suspect that they had just used the incest as a means of humiliation and disgrace of dear old Dad for giving them up to a mob as rape-bait.
