"Prepare my friends for we all know what happend at sodom and gomorah."
Oh yes, we know better than you in fact. It starts with two of five cities collectively referred to as "the cities on the plain." The "plain" it referred to would have been a flood plain, like the lower Nile or eastern Mesopotamia. In other words, these were rich cities.
However, when strangers came to Sodom, they were denied hospitality. In the ancient world, for people of means (like those of Sodom) to deny hospitality to peaceful folk was an act of extreme cruelty. The intention of the men of Sodom to rape the strangers emphasizes their lack of hospitality.
Lot tries to placate the men of Sodom by offering them his virgin daughters. By valuing these male strangers over his daughters, he was showing proper ancient hospitality (although most modern people would regard this as barbaric). However, the men of Sodom are fixated on dehumanizing strangers, not two of their own.
A rich settlement that abuses strangers, sound like anyplace you're familiar with?
If you still think that the story of Sodom is a mere diatribe against homosexuality, consider this: After Sodom is destroyed, Lot's daughters get their father drunk and father sons with him. Your god apparently let this happen without speaking a word against it. Thus, your god clearly takes no issue with father/daughter incest. Hey, its in YOUR bible, it HAS to be true, right?
