The actual cause was that Christianity was illegal before 312. Constantine made it legal in that year.
It is still legal, but in many places such as in Canada and I think in some places in Europe, preaching unadulterated Christian doctrine, contrary to the political PC, is illegal.
My observation is that we are everywhere devolving to the point that Christianity is fine as long as each individual Christian is willing to sacrifice to the PC God.
In other words, you can privately believe whatever you want as long as you publicly agree to the pagan consensus.
Earlier Christians died in refusing to do this.

As long as you stop bitching about everything in public? Sounds good to me.
Also, I don't think you'd get very far preaching slavery and other lovely bits of the OT anywhere.
and I think in some places in Europe, preaching unadulterated Christian doctrine, contrary to the political PC, is illegal.
We have an Established Church in the UK with Bishops automatically given a seat in the House of Lords. It may be batshit insane (as most of the Bishops are) and totally undemocratic but there are enough checks and balances in place to make sure the system generally works.
There were some....who resisted...
Well, would you want that some fanatical islamists in western countries are allowed to publicly state that all christians should be exterminated, or that Nazis are allowed to publicly say that Jews are subhumans, everything just because these people believe so?
That´s what you would get if everyone would be allowed to publicly preach what he believes ;)
So even you profit if people have to obey some social rules concerning the things that you publicly say/preach ;)
After his rant about how christians are supposedly persecuted in the west, he says this: Earlier Christians died in refusing to do this . But you are not being killed for your beliefs. This should tell you that you don't have it that bad. When the government decides that christians need to start moving or dying, then you can bitch about being persecuted.
No, Christianity was not illegal before 312. Christians were considered one group of overzealous whackadoos among many. No, preaching unadulterated Christian doctrine (I shudder to think of what you may mean by that) is not illegal in Europe. You can do it at church, in the home, in facilities rented for the purpose. You can also do it in public, but most people will politely ignore you. And far fewer Christians were martyred in Roman times than you whiners lay claim to.
Hey, I've been to Canada. They have churches all over, and televangelists on cable TV, and everything.

You can preach anything you want. What gets you into trouble is physically acting on it by doing things like kicking people out of your church.

There is no "pagan consensus" there's just all the pagan practices, cerimonies, and holy days that christianity co-opted. And what's your point anyway? Doesn't your own "holy book" tell you not to pray in public or make public displays of how pious you are? Does it not tell you to pray in private, with no one else around?
It depends what you mean by "preaching unadulterated Christian doctrine". I can't speak for Canada but I can speak for one island in Europe.
If you stand on your soapbox at Hyde Park Corner and yell "Kill the Muslims! Kill the niggers! Kill the queers! Kill the abortionists! Kill the adulterers!" you can be pretty sure that you'll end up spending a night in the cells. Even (or perhaps especially) the local Christians would queue up to pelt you with rotten tomatoes before the coppers arrived to cart you off.
Being England, of course, it would be an orderly queue. It's only right that everyone should have a fair chance to mock the nutter.
Never actually been to Canada, have you? there's a Baptist church, a big one, three doors down from me.
I live in Canada. Preaching the bible here is definitely not illegal... judging by the five churches that are within walking distance of my home, and the hundreds of other churches within city limits (probably more like thousands). Our own prime minister has publicly spoken out against gay marriage, we have plenty of right wing nuts who insist that homosexuality is a sin, and so on. I've seen plenty of crazy guys walking around down town, yelling shit about god and the end times. I live in Calgary, though, so take that as you will.
Our hate crime laws are a bit over-the-top, though, to be frank, but the cases of people being charged for making prejudiced statements generally involve antisemitism, not Christian homophobia.
...As long as you publicly agree to the pagan consensus.
The consensus is more along humanist lines, as the truly moral religions, sects, philosophies, etc., have humanism in common.
It is still legal, but in many places such as in Canada and I think in some places in Europe, preaching unadulterated Christian doctrine, contrary to the political PC, is illegal.
Hey, I live in Europe. Let's test that theory out.
Fundy Bullfrog writes; Hey kids! You may think that paganism is cool, but it's really Devil worship. If you are a so-called "Wiccan", or a Muslim for that matter, you are going to burn in Hell for eternity. Oh yeah, and God really hates homosexuality as well. All you queers will burn too. Jesus loves you!
Now, let's see if the thought police come and boot my door in. I'm waiting...
Hi everyone. If you are not a right-winger, stay well away from religious fundamentalism. Because the fundamentalists are all right-wingers.
Specially since Jesus is anti right-wing.
"It is still legal, but in many places such as in Canada and I think in some places in Europe, preaching unadulterated Christian doctrine, contrary to the political PC, is illegal."
Basically the only thing that is illegal here is telling people to go hurt/kill other people. So "KILL TEH GHEYS ANT KILL TEH MOOSHLIMS" is not allowed.
I think in some places in Europe, preaching unadulterated Christian doctrine, contrary to the political PC, is illegal.
Not here... there was a nutter shouting out the love of the lord here yesterday in the midle of town... right in front of the fucking police station. So, it's not even close to being illegal here in the UK... just down-right annoying when you're trying to do the shopping.
Although... when I joined in, shouting out the love of the lord (as shown by people like Moses et al) he went a very lovely shade of purple...
Christanity is illegal in Canada? Are you a complete idiot?
Not letting bigots run about and call for the killing of the LGBT community, or not allowing the West Borough Baptist Church to come into our country to spread there hatred at one of our soldiers funerals is some how unethical? Balderdash!
Yeah, shame about common decency and shared humanity trumping a bigots right to spread hate.
n many places such as in Canada and I think in some places in Europe, preaching unadulterated Christian doctrine, contrary to the political PC, is illegal.
Oh, how I wish this was true. I'm about ready to nail an Ouija board to my front door to see if that will keep the fundies away.
If I want to know about your God, there's a church every 3 fucking blocks. I'm sure I could find my way there myself.
,,,because everthing was perfect when Christianity ruled,,,right? No one suffered under Christianity driven policies ,,,right?
Since you've been perusing history (more likely a church pamphlet) you might wanna notice other things going down in the past, even the recent past of Christianity's legacy.
Hint, it's a lot easier to find the Christians persecuting then to find the cases of the opposite and even then often cases of retribution for Christian acts.
Canada, and almost all places in Europe have freedom of speech, so you can preach whatever stupid things you want. There is not freedom from criticism, though, so people are going to call you out on stupidity and laugh at your ridiculous ideas.
Political PC? Is that from the Redundancy Department of Redundancy?
Your observation? Have you ever been to Europe? Many countries here are governed by Christian Democrats. Christianity is fine as long as it's moderate, held private and doesn't interfere with other people's rights. There is no PC god, silly. What pagan consensus?
Some Christians must have agree to do this, whatever "this" is, as they survived til 312 when it was made legal.
Confused?
