I was listening to the Wicked soundtrack in the car(because it's one of the only Broadway shows I like because it isn't dirty) and I thought of something interesting. For those who don't know, Wicked tells the back story of the Wicked Witch of the West, and why she's known as the wicked witch. Long story short, she's just misunderstood because the wizard tries to use her, and she's friends with Glinda. Well, the show opens with all the citizens of Oz celebrating her melting. Glinda shows us the story in a flashback. By the end, they're singing the same song in sad tones, because now everyone knows the whole story.
It got me thinking about George Bush. Right now, everyone is celebrating his leaving, much like they were celebrating Elphaba(the witch's name)'s death. By the time four years pass, everyone might be looking back at Bush's leaving sadly because Obama was much worse, and we know Bush only did his best.
It's amazing how a childrens' show can inspire so much thought.

Wicked is fiction. Get it? The author can bring Elphaba back to life if he felt inclined and someone would pay for the work.
George W. Bush and all his blunders since he was born is part of our rather messy reality. Personally, I may forgive but I never forget.

Sadly, I actually can do that: he signed into law the creation of the national Do Not Call list. I'm typing this one-handed due to holding my nose shut to avoid the stench involved with taking Bush's side, but since I so gladly point out all the awful-smelling crap the Bush administration stirs up, I've also got to give Bush credit on the rare occasion that he does something right, lest I begin devolving into a fundie state of mind.

I don't know what to say. It's, it's, it's priceless. Using this to...I mean, it shows so much. Using a fairy tale to get advice, and then relating it to Dubya and Obama, it's fucking hilarious. At least you left that old, outdated fairy tale book you call the bible behind for an updated fairy tale. It shows progress, I think.

If you had read the book, which was written by a gay man, upon which the musical was based, you would see that it is decidedly anti-fundie, and not for children.
Well, she's right about one thing, Bush did do his best.......to give corporations free reign to trample and destroy the environment and the middle class, to gut the constitution and the rights of individuals, to see to it that he and his corporate cronies made millions destroying the economy while the rest of the country is barely holding on, to put science and women's health back in the dark ages, etc., etc., etc. Yep, he did his best all right.
His best was wrong though, that's the point. It doesn't matter how good I *think* blowing up the moon might be, it isn't.

Clearly, she's never read the book. Wicked, the novel, by Gregory McGuire, is full of anti-governmental protests, premarital sex, extramarital affairs, and mocks fundamentalist christianity. She might want to reconsider what she says before she speaks. KTHANKS!
I'm still boggled that she thinks so many Broadway shows are dirty. She must be refering to recent ones because there is nothing dirty about the classic Broadway musicals of the past.
And, yes, Wicked (the book) is definitely not for small kids.
She is right about one thing, sadly: Most history books in 20 years will only list the good things about w's terms. This is traditional for presidents.

To be honest, this makes some sort of sense. I get the feeling that Bush himself just wasn't up to the task; incompetent but not malicious. If anything is to blame, it's the bankrupt ideology that he was swept up in.

You screwed up your own analogy. For Wicked to apply then you would need to provide a back story for Bush that would excuse why he was a complete fuckwit and make us sorry for mocking him.
For your Obama example to work then there would have had to been another witch that after Elphaba that was so much worse that we would think Elphaba was a good witch by comparison. This didn't happen (in either case) and is a stupid argument anyway. Having someone worse come along doesn't transform what happened previously all happy and fun.
LOLWUT. If Elphaba was real, she would be beating this lady's ass for comparing her to Bush. Also, Wicked is as queer(and I mean that in a good way)as the "dirty" Broadway shows she mentions. Srsly, Elphie and Glinda were totally in lesbians with each other.
